Senior Test Engineer – Automation‐Led Quality Engineering

Hybrid | 2 days per week onsite – Manchester, Midlands or London

We’re looking for a Senior Test Engineer with a strong automation focus to join a lean, high‐impact test team delivering digital products across web and enterprise SaaS platforms. This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who wants to shape quality through smart test design, solid automation and pragmatic decision‐making.

You’ll work closely with engineers, product managers and designers to reduce risk, improve release confidence and embed quality across fast‐moving delivery teams.

The Role

You’ll own and evolve automated testing across UI, API and integration layers, balancing automation with exploratory testing where it adds the most value. You’ll support regression, release readiness and early risk identification while helping teams make better quality decisions sooner.

This role is hybrid, with 2 days per week onsite in Manchester, the Midlands or London.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain automation across UI, API and integration layers
  • Strengthen regression coverage to support frequent, confident releases
  • Partner with delivery teams to improve testability and surface risk early
  • Carry out targeted exploratory and manual testing when needed
  • Provide clear, risk‐based quality input into release decisions
  • Apply OWASP Top 10 awareness and lightweight threat modelling
  • Test against WCAG standards and support better accessibility outcomes
  • Manage test data and work effectively with unstable or imperfect environments
  • Communicate quality clearly to technical and non‐technical stakeholders

Skills & Toolkit

  • 5+ years’ experience in software testing with senior‐level automation capability
  • Strong automation experience across UI, API and integration testing
  • Tools: Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Postman, REST Assured
  • Languages: JavaScript/TypeScript, with experience in Java and Python
  • CI experience using GitLab CI
  • Strong grounding in risk‐based testing and modern quality engineering
  • Practical security testing knowledge (OWASP Top 10)
  • Hands‐on accessibility testing aligned to WCAG
  • Comfortable using AI‐assisted tooling to improve delivery efficiency
  • Extensive experience working in agile environments

Working Model

  • Hybrid role – 2 days per week onsite
  • Locations: Manchester, Midlands (Hartlebury) or London
  • Occasional travel to other UK or overseas offices may be required
