Senior Ruby on Rails Developer - Contract | Government Project - SC Cleared

Location: UK (Remote/Hybrid - Occasional UK site visit required
Rate: £450 - £500 per day
Duration: Initial 3 months
Start: ASAP

We are currently recruiting for a SC-Cleared Senior Ruby on Rails Developer to join a high-profile government programme on an initial 3-month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced contractor who can hit the ground running within an established delivery team, contributing from day one in a fast-paced public sector environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain robust, scalable applications using Ruby on Rails
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams including product, design, and delivery
• Contribute to best practices, including code reviews, TDD, and mentoring junior developers
• Ensure solutions align with GDS service standards, including security and accessibility requirements
• Integrate seamlessly into an existing agile team environment

Key Skills & Experience:

• Senior/Lead-level development experience
• Strong expertise in Ruby on Rails
• Solid experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD)
• Proven public sector/government experience
• Strong understanding of GDS standards, including:
  • Service standards
  • Security principles
  • Accessibility requirements
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders effectively
• Collaborative mindset with experience working in established agile teams
• Comfortable supporting code reviews and mentoring

Additional Information:

• Candidates must be able to interview and start at short notice
• Prior experience working on government digital services is highly desirable
