    Job description

    Job responsibilities

  • Provided efficient and accurate audio and copy typing support to GPs and other healthcare professionals, including medical letters, reports, patient referrals, memoranda and meeting minutes.
  • Worked closely with the Practice Manager to provide effective clerical and administrative support, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
  • Scheduled patient appointments, bookings and hospital admissions, ensuring information was recorded accurately and communicated appropriately.
  • Organised and maintained secure, accessible filing systems for both electronic and paper-based records, in accordance with confidentiality and data-protection requirements.
  • Retrieved, prepared and managed patient medical records, ensuring relevant documentation was available when required.
  • Accurately filed patient correspondence and clinical documentation within medical records, maintaining high standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Managed incoming and outgoing telephone calls professionally, dealing with enquiries appropriately and taking and relaying messages accurately.
  • Maintained the accuracy and integrity of patient information on the clinical system, ensuring records were kept up to date, secure and confidential.
  • Assisted with data collection, audits and performance reporting, ensuring information was accurate and submitted within required timescales.

    Experience

    Essential
    • Extensive previous secretarial and administrative experience, providing accurate and efficient support to healthcare professionals and ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day administrative processes.
    • Proven experience working within a healthcare setting, with a sound understanding of medical terminology, patient confidentiality, clinical documentation and the importance of maintaining accurate patient records.
    • Experienced in working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, while also demonstrating the ability to work independently, use initiative and manage responsibilities without direct supervision.
    • Proven ability to prioritise and manage multiple competing tasks in a busy environment, maintaining accuracy and attention to detail while working under pressure and meeting service requirements and strict deadlines.
