Lead Technical Writers - AI Evaluation (UK-Remote)

Job Description:

Seeking multiple Technical Writers to lead complex, multidisciplinary GenAI programs focused on human-in-the-loop (HITL) systems and rater platforms.

This role involves designing high-quality instructions, creating training content, and translating complex technical requirements into clear documentation that supports high-quality data annotation and collection.

You will serve as a strategic partner to cross-functional teams including engineering, research, and product, and will also guide junior writers and help establish best practices.

  • To Note: This is for an immediate project need. Project is approved for 3-months initially, with possibility to extend based on project/client demands.
  • To Note: Hourly rate range (45 - 55) is in USD per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategy and execution of task design and instruction creation for GenAI programs, establishing best practices and templates.
  • Collaborate deeply with Product Areas to understand their data needs, define clear task requirements, and provide expert consultation on task design.
  • Design, write, and iterate on high-quality rater instructions and guidelines that are clear, concise, and minimize ambiguity to ensure high-quality data output.
  • Develop and implement an internal training program and comprehensive knowledge base on task design principles and best practices to empower Product Areas.
  • Transform complex and often ambiguous technical information from engineers and researchers into effective rater task designs.
  • Author, edit, and maintain a range of technical documents, including in-depth task design guides, instruction templates, and Quality Control (QC) rubrics.
  • Act as a pilot user for new workflows, refining instructions based on practical application.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical writing, instructional design, or a similar role, with a focus on creating instructions for human-in-the-loop tasks or rater platforms.
  • Experience in task definition and instruction design principles and best practices.
  • Experience with HTML, Python, Data analysis, Markdown, or version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders and translate requirements into clear, actionable instructions for the audience.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Technical Communication, Instructional Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • Experience working with large-scale human evaluation platforms, crowdsourcing, or rater-based data collection programs.
  • Experience designing tasks for complex domains.
  • Experience with data analysis to inform instruction improvement.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and data labeling processes.
