This is a brand newly created position, reporting into the General Manager of the trading business and will be in charge of defining, implementing, and governing the data vision for a leading physical oil trading organization.

This role oversees the design and operation of a scalable, secure, high‐quality data ecosystem supporting front, middle, and back-office functions—including trading, risk, operations, finance, compliance, and HR.

The ideal candidate combines deep knowledge of physical oil markets, strong experience with ERP & ETRM systems, and a proven ability to build modern data platforms, cloud architectures, data governance frameworks, and efficient workflows for technical and non‐technical users.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Strategy & Governance

  • Develop and own the company’s enterprise data strategy, ensuring alignment with commercial, risk, and IT objectives.

Data Architecture & Platform Ownership

  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing evolution of the KPCT central data platform.
  • Own the overall data infrastructure, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance.

Cloud Strategy & Engineering Leadership

  • Drive the company’s cloud data strategy, selecting and optimizing cloud technologies

On‐Desk Enablement & Coding Frameworks

  • Create and support controlled frameworks for on‐desk coding (Python, SQL, analytics tooling, etc....), providing guardrails without limiting innovation.
  • Partner with Trading, Risk, and Analytics teams to streamline creation of pricing tools, forecasting models, optimization engines, and dashboards.

Cross‐Functional Support Across the Trading Lifecycle

  • Support front office (Trading, Analytics, Research), middle office (Risk, Control) and back office (Operations, Finance, Accounting)

ETRM Integration & Data Flow Management

  • Act as the strategic owner of data flows into and out of ERP & ETRM systems (e.g., Endur, Allegro, Aspect, RightAngle etc).

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead implementation by network of Data/Digital representatives within each business department to accept and assimilate new technologies.
  • Serve as the bridge between business teams and technology teams, translating commercial needs into scalable solutions.
  • Communicate data strategy, KPIs, risks, and progress clearly to executive leadership.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of physical oil trading, supply chains, market data, pricing, and operations experience gained working for a major global oil trading business (ideally oil major).
  • It is essential that you have worked for a major global oil trading business, in a major global oil trading hub (London, Houston, Geneva, Singapore etc), instead of for a smaller remote office
  • 10+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or data strategy roles.
  • Hands‐on familiarity with major ETRM systems (e.g., Endur, Allegro, Aspect, RightAngle).
  • Practical coding knowledge: Python, SQL, version control (Git), and workflow orchestration tools.
  • Experience implementing and scaling cloud‐native data platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP).
  • Strong knowledge of streaming, APIs, data modeling, and integration frameworks.

Leadership & Strategic Capabilities

  • Proven ability to define data strategy at enterprise scale.
  • Experience managing and mentoring diverse technical teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management across Trading, Risk, Finance, IT, and senior leadership.
  • Strong architectural thinking and ability to design future‐proof systems
