An opportunity has arisen to join the technology procurement function of a major financial services organisation at a particularly interesting point in its development.
The business is going through a significant integration programme which will create one of the largest banking groups in the UK. As part of this, they are strengthening their Technology Procurement team and are looking for an experienced Technology Category & Sourcing Manager to take ownership of a broad portfolio across Software and IT Services.
This isn't a role where you'll simply inherit a mature category plan and manage it. There is a significant pipeline of sourcing activity to deliver over the next 12 months alongside developing the longer-term category strategy.
Role Responsibilities:
- Own a broad portfolio across Software, IT Services and wider Technology spend, managing activity from category strategy through to sourcing execution.
- Play a key role in a major integration programme, helping the business navigate complex supplier, contractual and commercial changes.
- Develop local category strategies covering the next three years, aligning these with wider global procurement and technology strategies.
- Lead complex sourcing and negotiation activity across strategic technology suppliers.
- Work through contractual and commercial risk associated with the integration, including changes to existing agreements and supplier arrangements.
- Partner closely with senior Technology, Finance, Procurement and business stakeholders to understand demand and translate this into an executable sourcing pipeline.
- Identify savings and wider commercial value while ensuring procurement activity meets the organisation's regulatory and risk requirements.
- Work within a large, global procurement environment, collaborating with both local and international category teams.
- Support and provide direction to a small team while remaining hands-on with delivery.
Required Expertise:
This role would suit an experienced Technology Procurement professional who is comfortable operating in a complex, fast-moving environment.
You will ideally have:
- 5+ years' experience within strategic sourcing / procurement, with strong exposure to Technology categories.
- Experience across Software and IT Services, rather than being focused on one narrow technology sub-category.
- A track record of developing category strategies and taking them through into sourcing and execution.
- Strong commercial and negotiation experience, including complex technology contracts.
- Experience operating within a large, global or highly matrixed organisation.
- A good understanding of UK commercial and contractual considerations.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work across Technology, Finance, Legal and Procurement.
- Financial Services experience would be highly advantageous, particularly within banking, although candidates from other complex regulated environments will also be considered.
- Evidence of progression and good tenure throughout your career.
This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants exposure to a major transformation programme while still owning genuine end-to-end Technology Procurement activity. With the team itself evolving alongside the wider business, there should also be good scope for progression over the next few years.
