We're recruiting a Developer to join an innovative research organisation working within the life sciences sector. This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of software engineering, data engineering and scientific research, helping scientists access, integrate and make better use of valuable research data.

This role would suit a developer with a strong backend background who enjoys working with databases, APIs and data integration projects.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll work closely with scientists and technical colleagues to develop and improve the systems that underpin research activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and maintaining RESTful APIs using modern development frameworks
  • Developing and optimising relational database structures
  • Designing data models to support scientific and research data
  • Integrating third-party software and internal systems
  • Building automated data pipelines and ETL processes
  • Supporting data warehousing and data engineering initiatives
  • Improving application and database performance
  • Producing clear technical documentation and API specifications
What We're Looking For Essential Skills & Experience
  • Python or Java development skills
  • Experience building APIs
  • Knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
  • Experience using ORM frameworks such as SQLAlchemy, Hibernate or similar
  • Understanding of data modelling and database design
  • Familiarity with Docker and modern development practices
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills
Desirable
  • Experience working with scientific, laboratory or research data
  • Exposure to life sciences, biotechnology or pharmaceutical environments
  • Knowledge of data warehousing or ETL processes
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms
