The role will play a pivotal part in shaping & delivering a modern data environment for BPAS. This is a senior, hands-on leadership position with significant scope to influence how the organisation uses information to support clinical safety, operational efficiency & strategic decision-making.

About You

We are looking for an experienced & values-driven individual who is confident in both the technical & interpersonal aspects of Business Intelligence leadership.

You will bring:

  • Significant experience in BI, data architecture, or analytics leadership within a complex organisation.
  • Expertise in Power BI, semantic modelling, data transformation, & cloud-based data platforms.
  • Experience working with modern data architectures such as data lakehouse, medallion-style models, or enterprise-scale reporting environments.
  • A clear understanding of data governance, IG requirements & responsibilities involved in working with sensitive clinical & personal datasets.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • A collaborative, pragmatic approach, with the ability to balance long-term development work against organisational needs.
  • Experience in healthcare, the NHS, or a regulated environment is desirable but not essential.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with colleagues across clinical, operational, digital, and corporate functions, you will:

  • Lead the design and development of our Business Intelligence platform built on Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, and Power BI.

  • Develop a coherent and trusted data architecture that supports automated, reliable, and timely reporting.

  • Oversee the integration of data from multiple systems, including clinical, operational, CRM, HR, and finance platforms.

  • Promote strong information governance and ensure all reporting meets GDPR, NHS Information Governance, and BPAS data protection standards.

  • Act as the primary contact for data and reporting requests, ensuring clarity, prioritisation, and effective management of the BI workload.

  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to colleagues in our BI and data function, helping to build skills, confidence, and consistency.

  • Contribute to the long-term development of BPAS data strategy, including platform roadmaps, governance frameworks, and our future operating model.

Job responsibilities

Location: Working from home with days in Head Office Leamington Spa and BPAS Units when required. This travel will be arranged as and when necessary to support operational needs, attend meetings, participate in training, or collaborate with colleagues. Flexibility and a willingness to travel are essential, and reasonable notice will be provided wherever possible.

Salary: £70,000-£80,000 per annum - depending on skills and experience.

Hours Per Week: 36 hours - Monday - Thursday 9am - 5pm and Friday 9am - 3.30pm.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Analytics) or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuous professional development in data, analytics, or digital technology fields.
Desirable
  • Professional certifications in Microsoft Power BI, Azure, Microsoft Fabric (e.g. PL-300, DP-900).
  • Formal training in data governance, Agile delivery (e.g. Scrum, PRINCE2), or information security.

Experience

Essential
  • Extensive experience in a senior-level BI or data leadership role.
  • Proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale BI platforms and reporting environments.
  • Significant hands-on experience with Power BI, including DAX, semantic modelling, and report optimisation.
  • Experience in data architecture, including the design and management of medallion-style models (bronze/silver/gold).
  • Proven stakeholder engagement and requirements-gathering experience across diverse functions (clinical, operational, executive).
  • Experience managing work pipelines or delivery backlogs (e.g. via Azure DevOps).
Desirable
  • Experience working within healthcare, public sector, or not-for-profit organisations.
  • Familiarity with NHS datasets, clinical indicators, or reporting frameworks such as Making Data Count.
  • Background in coaching, mentoring, or upskilling BI teams or analysts.
  • Exposure to governance, audit, and data protection within sensitive or regulated data environments.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale budgeting, forecasting, or financial modelling (Contract Contribution, cost allocation, activity-based reporting).
  • Experience with clinical, operational, or appointment-based demand modelling.
