We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Modeller with deep Insurance and London Market expertise to design, govern, and evolve enterprise-grade data models across policy, underwriting, pricing, and claims domains. The role requires strong hands-on modelling capability combined with the ability to work with senior business stakeholders, translate London Market processes into robust data structures, and support cloud-based, analytics-ready data platforms.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of Syndicates, Delegated Authority, Reinsurance (including Ceded Reinsurance) and be proficient in selecting and applying the right modelling techniques (Canonical, Data Vault, Dimensional) across Silver, Gold, and Semantic layers.

Key Responsibilities
Data Modelling & Architecture
- Design and maintain enterprise-wide data models across Insurance domains including:
- Policy lifecycle (pre-bind, post-bind, endorsements)
- Underwriting & pricing
- Claims (open, settled, recoveries)
- Reinsurance and Ceded Reinsurance
- Delegated Authority and Bordereaux
- Develop and govern:
- Canonical Data Models (CDM) aligned to London Market standards
- Data Vault models (Raw Data Vault – RDV, Business Data Vault – BDV)
- Dimensional models (Facts & Dimensions) for analytics and reporting
- Clearly articulate when and why to use Canonical, Data Vault, or Dimensional models depending on use case (integration, auditability, reporting, performance).
- Model data for modern cloud data platforms (e.g. Azure, Databricks, Snowflake).
- Design data structures aligned to Medallion Architecture:
- Silver layer: conformed, standardised, integration-ready models
- Gold layer: analytics-optimised, business-ready models
- Semantic layer: business-friendly abstractions for BI and self-service analytics
- Ensure models support scalability, performance, lineage, and auditability.
- Elicit and document complex London Market business rules, entities, and attributes across:
- Syndicate structures
- Risk, Section, Binder, Line, and Signing
- Coverage, limits, deductibles, reinstatements
- Claims movements and financial postings
- Translate underwriting and claims workflows into clear, reusable data assets.
- Work confidently with Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Actuarial, and Operations teams.
- Engage with senior stakeholders (Heads of Data, Underwriting, Claims, IT) to validate models and assumptions.
- Lead data modelling workshops and requirements discovery sessions.
- Act as a trusted advisor on data design decisions, standards, and trade-offs.
- Produce clear documentation: entity definitions, attribute glossaries, mappings, and lineage.
- Embed data quality, reconciliation, and audit considerations into data models.
- Support regulatory and reporting requirements through robust, traceable modelling.
- Align models with enterprise data governance and metadata standards.

- Extensive experience as a Data Modeller in Insurance, specifically within the London Market.
- Strong domain knowledge of:

- Policy underwriting (pre-bind and post-bind)
- Pricing and Claims
- Expert-level understanding of data modelling techniques:
- Canonical Data Models
- Data Vault (RDV & BDV)
- Dimensional Modelling (Kimball-style)
- Proven experience designing models across Silver, Gold, and Semantic layers.
- Strong SQL skills for data profiling, validation, and modelling support.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong senior stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills.
- Experience working on large-scale data platform transformations or modernisation programmes.
- Familiarity with London Market standards and bordereaux processing.
- Exposure to self-service BI and semantic modelling tools.
- Experience working in Agile/SaFe delivery environments.
- Analytical and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
- Confident working at both strategic and hands-on levels.
- Able to challenge constructively and make pragmatic design decisions.
- Comfortable working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
