Project Accountant – Finance Systems Transformation Location: Hybrid – Leeds based, 2–3 days per week on site Salary: £52,000 – £60,000 depending on experience 12-month Fixed Term Contract – potential for extension
The opportunity Broster Buchanan is partnering with a large, well-established not-for-profit organisation to recruit a Project Accountant / Finance Business Partner to support a major finance systems transformation. This is a genuinely hands-on role — the design phase is complete, and the focus now is testing, business readiness and getting the new system fit to go live.Whilst this is a 12 month FTC, historically this organisation has form for turning fixed-term contracts into something more permanent. People here tend to stay, get extended, and build real careers and even if you don't get extended here, the skills and experience you'll gain are in huge demand across the wider market - a great career building contract.
What you'll be doing - Writing and working through test scripts for UAT and data testing — from posting a journal to processing a fixed asset, working closely with the system integrator and an AI-assisted testing tool
- Supporting the business through testing to the point where they're confident and comfortable the new system works as expected
- Specialising across financial accounting activity, record to report, reconciliations, journal postings, tax and treasury, rather than management accounting, planning or forecasting
- Building strong working relationships across the finance team and wider business, and picking up work wherever the team needs support
- Bringing solutions, not just questions, this is a self-starter role that will suit someone comfortable saying "here's what I think" rather than waiting to be told
What you'll bring - Financial accounts experience, comfortable with reconciliations, journal postings and consolidation-type work. If you have tax or treasury experience - even better!
- Experience of working within a large, complex organisation (rather than straight from practice or a small accountancy firm)
- Exposure to UAT, data testing or test script writing - this matters more than deep specialism in any one finance area
- Familiarity with any major ERP system (SAP, Oracle, Workday or similar) whilst the specifics differ, the underlying logic doesn't and your skills would be transferable
- A collaborative, team-first mindset, you'll be happy to flex into other areas when the team needs it
- A recognised accountancy qualification is useful but not essential — relevant hands-on experience matters more
A few honest notes - This role needs regular in-person time — 2-3 days a week minimum to be able to make an impact, most likely over Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays. It's a fast-moving programme and a lot of the useful problem-solving happens informally, in person, rather than over Teams
- Reduced hours will genuinely be considered for the right person - c4 days or 0.8
- We're looking to move quickly, but can accommodate up to a month's notice period for the right candidate
What's in it for you - Salary: £52,000 – £60,000 depending on experience
- c40 days paid holiday (including bank holidays)
- Flexible working and generous family leave packages
- Access to professional, personal and leadership development
- One of the strongest pension schemes around, with generous employer contributions
- Discounts on shopping, transport, cycling, healthcare and financial services
