Summary: Our client's Digital Services team is seeking an experienced contract professional to support the delivery of its IT Infrastructure Improvements Programme (IIIP) — a high-priority, transformational initiative designed to modernise the Island's core digital infrastructure, improve service resilience, and enhance cybersecurity readiness. The Infrastructure Technical Lead will provide senior-level expertise to guide the design, planning, and delivery of infrastructure components within this IT improvement project.

Location: Jersey (On-island candidates preferred, travel required for mainland candidates)

Salary: Competitive (Pay Rate - Uo to £760.00/ day)

Job Type: Contract (6-month initially)

About The Role: This contract role involves providing senior-level expertise to guide the design, planning, and delivery of infrastructure components within an IT improvement project. Acting as the technical authority, the Infrastructure Technical Lead will lead infrastructure assessments, define solutions, oversee implementation, and ensure alignment with architectural standards and business requirements. Responsibilities also include risk management, stakeholder engagement, and providing technical leadership to internal teams and third-party suppliers. The Technical Lead will ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and fit for purpose, contributing to project documentation and knowledge transfer. This role supports the successful execution of infrastructure improvements within agreed timescales and quality standards.

 
 

What We're Looking For: Skills and Experience:

  • 7+ years in infrastructure engineering, with at least 3 in a senior or lead technical role.
  • Experience in large-scale infrastructure transformation or refresh programmes (£2m+ value).
  • Leadership of multidisciplinary delivery teams (e.g., network, server, cloud, and support engineers).
  • Ownership of infrastructure solution design and implementation roadmaps.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and root cause analysis across complex systems.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud and on-premise enterprise architectures.
  • Proficiency in Azure, VMware, and Hyper-V.
  • Knowledge of Identity and Access Management (Active Directory, Azure AD, MFA/ SSO).
  • Familiarity with networking (TCP/ IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, SD-WAN).
  • Experience with storage and backup (SAN/ NAS, replication, DRaaS, backup automation).
  • Knowledge of automation & Infrastructure as Code (PowerShell, ARM templates, Terraform)
  • Experience working in or with public sector organisations, preferably local government.
  • Supplier/ vendor engagement for technology delivery and integration.

Candidates residing in Jersey or those from the mainland who can commit to travelling to site either a few days a week or per month will be given preference
