📍 Manchester, UK (Hybrid – 2 days per week onsite, Tuesdays & Thursdays)

💷 £70,000 – £80,000 + up to 10% bonus

Are you a technically strong Senior Data Engineer who enjoys solving complex data challenges and working directly with clients to deliver real business impact?

We’re looking for a commercially minded engineer to join a growing team in Manchester. This is an exciting opportunity to design, build and maintain scalable data platforms and pipelines that power analytics and AI-driven decision-making for leading UK organisations.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of hands-on engineering, consulting, and stakeholder engagement, with a clear pathway into people leadership.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design, build and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines using Python and modern data engineering tools
  • Translate complex business and data challenges into practical engineering solutions
  • Lead technical scoping and delivery from requirements gathering through to deployment and support
  • Build and maintain data models, transformation layers and orchestration frameworks
  • Work closely with clients, presenting technical solutions in a clear and accessible way
  • Champion data quality, governance and engineering best practices
  • Mentor junior engineers and help shape a culture of technical excellence
  • Collaborate with Cloud, MLOps and Analytics teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
  • Support proposals, demos and client relationship development where needed

What we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years’ experience in Data Engineering or a similar technical discipline
  • Strong Python skills with production-level engineering experience
  • Experience with tools/frameworks such as pandas, Polars, DBT
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modelling and medallion architecture
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect or Dagster
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with modern warehouse/lakehouse architectures
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code practices
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience in a client-facing or consulting environment (or strong desire to develop this)
  • Ambition to move into team leadership / people management

Nice to have:

  • Experience with PySpark / Databricks
  • Experience with streaming technologies like Kafka or AWS Kinesis
  • Knowledge of data governance and quality frameworks
