Senior Information Security Engineer

Senior Information Security Engineer - Microsoft Sentinel, E5 Defender, Azure Security - Up to £80,000 + bonus

One of the world's most iconic sporting institutions is looking for a Senior Information Security Engineer to join a lean, high-impact technology team and take genuine ownership of their security engineering function.

This organisation has undergone a deliberate and strategic transformation - streamlining operations, stabilising the business, and making targeted investments in technology and data. The tech and security teams are at the heart of that strategy, and this hire is central to it.

The Senior Information Security Engineer role:

Reporting directly into the Head of Cyber Security, you'll be the technical engine of a small but ambitious security function. You won't be one of fifty engineers doing a narrow slice of work - you'll be the person who owns the breadth of it. From hardening the Azure environment and managing the E5 Defender stack, to tuning Sentinel detections and driving a major Data Loss Prevention programme using Microsoft Purview, you'll see your work through from idea to delivery.

You'll also play a critical role in keeping the SOC honest - challenging detection logic, building out use cases for high-stakes operational events, and ensuring the business's most critical systems are properly protected.

Senior Information Security Engineer – Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect, implement and manage the Microsoft E5 security stack - Defender for Endpoint, Identity and Cloud, Sentinel, Purview and Intune.
  • Lead the implementation and tuning of Microsoft Sentinel: build KQL queries, custom detection rules, threat hunting workbooks, and automate playbooks via Logic Apps.
  • Drive the Data Loss Prevention programme using Microsoft Purview - assessing how data is shared across the business and implementing appropriate controls.
  • Enforce endpoint security baselines across Windows, macOS, Linux and mobile via Intune - including device compliance, Conditional Access, MDM and MAM.
  • Lead security incident detection, investigation and response alongside the SOC, and conduct post-incident reviews to continuously improve defences.
  • Harden Azure infrastructure including RBAC, PIM, NSGs, identity protections and cloud-native security controls.
  • Maintain secure network architectures including segmentation, access control and perimeter defence.
  • Advise on the delivery of new tooling and technologies, ensuring they are sufficiently secure before deployment.
  • Collaborate across the business to ensure compliance with ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, NIST and GDPR.

Senior Information Security Engineer – Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience in cybersecurity engineering, ideally with a background in infrastructure - someone who knows how to navigate networks as well as secure them.
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft Sentinel: rule creation, KQL, threat hunting, workbooks and Logic Apps automation.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Microsoft Defender suite across Endpoint, Identity and Cloud.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft E5, Intune, Purview and Azure security hardening.
  • Familiarity with industry frameworks: MITRE ATT&CK, NIST, CIS Benchmarks, PCI-DSS.
  • Comfortable working in a small team where you'll need to turn your hand to multiple disciplines - this isn't a role for someone who wants to specialise in one narrow area.
  • Strong communicator who can hold a conversation with the business, not just the technical team.
  • Based in Manchester - the role is primarily office-based, with free on-site parking.
  • Preferred certifications: SC-100, SC-200, AZ-500, CISSP or CompTIA Security+.

This is a rare opportunity to join one of the most recognisable organisations in the world at a genuinely exciting moment - where the technology function is being built out, AI initiatives are being explored, and the person in this role will have the autonomy to shape what good looks like.
