Business Improvement Coordinator
The Opportunity
An established manufacturing business in Plymouth is seeking a hands-on Business Improvement Coordinator to support the continued implementation, adoption and optimisation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Working closely with Production, Planning, Purchasing, Warehouse, Sales Administration and Finance, the successful candidate will help improve how information, processes and systems work across the business.
The initial priority is to stabilise processes in departments where the transition to Business Central has been less straightforward, improve data accuracy and help teams work more efficiently. Over time, this work should create measurable operational efficiencies and cost savings, while laying the foundations for the next stages of the company’s systems development.
Team and Working Culture
The business has a close-knit, collaborative culture. Many employees and department heads have worked together for years, building strong working relationships and a culture of knowledge sharing. The role calls for someone approachable and practical who can work with established teams, listen to how they operate and support positive change across departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the continued implementation, day-to-day use and improvement of Business Central, acting as an internal point of contact for users and process queries.
- Work across departments to understand existing workflows, identify bottlenecks, duplication and unnecessary manual administration, and implement practical improvements.
- Develop processes both within and outside Business Central: move appropriate off-system activities into the ERP, or align necessary off-system processes with Business Central requirements.
- Improve stock counting, stock accuracy and inventory controls, particularly for assembly and purchasing activities.
- Cleanse, reconcile and align data between Business Central and other systems, including manufacturing/CAD data, and improve item, customer and vendor master data quality.
- Streamline sales and purchasing administration and improve the quality of information flowing into finance, including order, shipment, receipt and invoice processes.
- Support testing, implementation and coordination of system and process changes; maintain improvement registers, action plans and project trackers.
- Map and document processes, develop SOPs, work instructions and training guides, and educate colleagues on more consistent and effective ways of working.
- Produce operational reporting, KPIs and periodic process reviews; help identify root causes and follow through on corrective actions.
- Work with management and the company Accountant to strengthen administrative and financial controls, including a weekly ERP-based sales report.
Future Systems Development
By establishing robust processes and reliable data now, the successful candidate will help prepare the business for further Business Central capabilities and related systems, potentially including:
- Power BI reporting and management dashboards.
- Business Central manufacturing functionality.
- A possible CRM solution in the future.
What Success Looks Like
Initially, performance will be measured by the delivery of agreed business improvement projects and the ability to “steady the ship” in departments that have found system adoption challenging. As improvements become embedded, the business expects to see better operational efficiency, stronger controls and, ultimately, cost savings. These longer-term outcomes will depend on the improvements delivered and their adoption across the business.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Hands-on experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and an understanding of its processes and master data.
- Strong Excel skills, including confidence cleansing, reconciling and analysing datasets.
- Experience with processes across purchasing, sales, inventory, operations, warehousing or finance.
- Ability to spot inefficient workflows, investigate issues and deliver practical improvements.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with and guiding colleagues across departments.
- A collaborative, organised and detail-oriented approach, with the ability to work on-site in Plymouth.
Desirable Experience
- Manufacturing or engineering environment experience, particularly stock control, assembly or production processes.
- Finance, bookkeeping, accounts or financial administration experience.
- ERP implementation, upgrades, data migration, UAT, process mapping or continuous improvement projects.
- Developing SOPs, user training materials, operational reports or KPIs.
Long-Term Opportunity
Once the initial business and systems improvements are in place, the role may develop into a more finance-focused position with broader responsibilities. Further financial progression may also be possible, depending on the individual’s starting level and performance; it is not guaranteed.
This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys understanding how a whole business operates, improving systems and processes, and helping people work more effectively—not simply using Business Central for one isolated function.
