This is a hands-on leadership role where your work directly impacts every employee, every month. You’ll lead from the front, raise standards and build a payroll function people can rely on.
The Mission
Payroll is a critical control point for Bytes. This role exists to strengthen accuracy, consistency and resilience as we grow. You’ll combine delivery with leadership, making sure payroll and benefits run smoothly, stand up to scrutiny and keep pace with the business.
What you’ll deliver
In your first 6–12 months, you will:
- Deliver accurate, on-time payroll with confidence, reducing rework and queries
- Take ownership of complex areas such as commission, OTE, salary sacrifice and statutory pay
- Build strong controls and audit-ready processes that protect the business
- Create clarity and consistency across payroll operations and data quality
- Coach and develop Payroll Specialists to improve capability and resilience
- Become the go-to expert for complex queries and escalations
- Strengthen relationships with HR, Finance and business stakeholders to improve how payroll supports the wider organisation
Essentials
- Solid UK payroll experience, including complex pay structures and compliance
- Strong Excel skills and confidence analysing and reconciling payroll data
- A clear track record of owning payroll outcomes end to end
- Experience guiding or mentoring others in a payroll environment
- Calm, methodical approach with high attention to detail under pressure
- High levels of integrity when handling sensitive data
