Job Description - Backup Engineer

As a Backup Storage Engineer, you will work with other (Client) Storage Engineering team members to provide standardized storage solutions to be deployed in the data centers globally. You will be responsible for the certification of our storage devices' new code and maintaining our storage engineering documentation. Your focus will be in the area of Backup Engineering. You will also provide consultation to (Client)Storage Operations teams for problem management purposes.

Role Description

• Work on the Backup engineering solutions (Spectrum Protect, DataDomain, etc) as formulated by our Product Management team for both on-prem and in Google cloud (GCP).
• Drive the definition and design of new core processes; tools; organization; performance metrics; and governance, handson
• Evaluation of new solution technology in the Backup area
• Ensure adherence to (Client)Security Standards (CISO)
• Certify new code and related software for Backup area
• Maintain documentation standards
• Provide consultation to (Client)Storage Operations
• Engage a wide stakeholder community and our suppliers to gain their participation in collaborative design processes and ensure their support for implementing change
• Work with our business/application teams to gather requirements to engineer a solution
• Maintain engineering standards and help Operations team in adhering to these
• Manage time effectively to work with different priorities, different projects

Required skills

• 10 years plus experience in the Backup storage industry with knowledge of engineering principles.
• Detailed knowledge in Spectrum Protect
• Strong performance analysis and troubleshooting skills for Spectrum Protect
• Scripting ability (sh, powershell, Perl, python)
• Exposure to a range of different backup solutions in the industry (Commvault, NetBackup, etc)
• Disciplined and analytical
