Apprentice Electronics Engineer

Capricorn Controls Ltd is seeking an Electronic Engineering Apprentice to gain hands-on experience in electronics manufacturing, testing and assembly while working towards a recognised qualification.

Role

As an Apprentice Electronics Technician, you will gain hands-on experience across a range of manufacturing, assembly, and electronics activities, developing your skills as you progress through the programme.

Initial Training and Development:

  • PCB (Printed Circuit Board) assembly, including fitting components and soldering
  • Wiring loom assembly, including wire cutting, crimping, and fitting conduit
  • Assisting with a variety of mechanical and electronic assembly tasks
  • Learning safe working practices and quality standards within the workplace

Once Competent:

  • Finishing and testing a range of electronic assemblies
  • Carrying out quality checks to ensure products meet specification
  • Diagnosing and resolving basic assembly and testing issues

As Your Experience Grows:

  • Assisting with and developing electronic circuit designs
  • Learning to write and modify software for microprocessors that control electronic circuits
  • Supporting the development and testing of new electronic products and systems
  • Working alongside experienced engineers to build your technical knowledge and expertise

Training

Qualifications included:

  • Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship Standard. Company Training Plan & Assessment
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge (1 day per week for 2 years at college)
  • Development Competence Qualification (workplace)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills - maths (If required)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills - English (If required)
  • End Point Assessment at the end of the apprenticeship
  • As the apprentice progresses within the role, there will be opportunities to continue their professional development by undertaking a Higher National Certificate (HNC) and potentially further higher-level qualifications
  • Over time, this will enable the apprentice to develop the advanced technical knowledge and skills required to design, develop, and bring new electronic products into production. With experience, the apprentice could progress into roles involving product design, product development, testing, and engineering project support, building towards a rewarding long-term career within the business
