Role Title: Akamai Security Engineer
Location: Hybrid (60% office / 40% remote) - Manchester
Contract End Date: 30/11/2026
Rate: £400 - £465 per day - Inside IR35



Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Akamai Security Engineer to support the configuration, deployment, and ongoing management of Akamai security solutions across web and API platforms. You will collaborate with security and engineering teams to ensure secure, reliable, and high-performing digital services.



Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain Akamai security tools, including Kona Site Defender, WAF, and Bot Manager.

  • Implement and fine-tune security policies, rulesets, and traffic routing configurations.

  • Monitor web traffic, identify threats, and assist with incident response activities.

  • Optimise WAF and bot rules to reduce false positives and enhance protection effectiveness.

  • Support CDN configuration, caching strategies, and performance optimisation.

  • Manage certificates, edge redirects, property updates, and Akamai console changes.

  • Collaborate with application teams to ensure secure deployments aligned with best practices.

  • Provide documentation and contribute to continuous improvements in web security operations.



Required Skills & Experience

  • Hands-on experience with Akamai technologies (e.g., Kona Site Defender, WAF, CDN).

  • Strong understanding of web security fundamentals (OWASP Top 10, DDoS, bot activity).

  • Familiarity with HTTP/S, DNS, TLS, caching, and content delivery networks.

  • Basic scripting or automation skills (Python, Shell, or Akamai APIs).

  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.



Desirable Skills & Certifications

  • Akamai Certified Engineer (ACE)

  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)

  • Exposure to DevSecOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, or Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC)

  • Experience with SIEM or monitoring tools
