Are you an experienced Field Service Engineer with a background in defence, secure communications or military technology?
We're looking for a skilled engineer to join a growing team delivering technical support for advanced secure systems used across the UK and internationally. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on engineering, solving complex technical challenges, and working directly with customers in operational environments.
Whether your experience comes from the Armed Forces, defence industry or another secure engineering environment, you'll play a key role in maintaining mission-critical technology that supports national security.
The Role
This is a varied field-based position where no two days are the same. You'll work closely with customers, engineering teams and project stakeholders to install, maintain, troubleshoot and support highly secure technical systems across multiple customer sites.
You'll be responsible for ensuring equipment remains operational, carrying out planned maintenance, diagnosing faults, supporting deployments and helping deliver an exceptional customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission and configure secure networking and communications equipment
- Carry out preventative maintenance, firmware upgrades and system health checks
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and infrastructure faults through structured root cause analysis
- Install and support Windows Server environments, virtualisation platforms and secure network infrastructure
- Provide technical support during customer trials, demonstrations and military exercises
- Deliver technical training to operators and maintainers
- Provide remote 1st and 2nd line support when required
- Produce clear technical documentation, maintenance reports and knowledge base articles
- Support software deployments, configuration management and hardware lifecycle activities
- Work closely with engineering, logistics and project teams to deliver outstanding customer support
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota (1 week in 4)
What We're Looking For
We're interested in engineers with experience in one or more of the following:
- Defence, military or secure government environments
- Radio Frequency (RF) systems and secure communications
- Cisco networking, routing and switching
- Windows Server (2016/2019/2022)
- VMware ESXi and/or Microsoft Hyper-V
- LAN, WAN and VLAN networking
- Encryption and cryptographic equipment
- Hardware installation, fault diagnosis and preventative maintenance
- Customer-facing technical support
- Configuration, release and change management
Candidates with previous service in the Royal Air Force, Royal Signals, 14 Signal Regiment, REME, or similar defence communications and engineering roles are particularly encouraged to apply, although equivalent commercial experience is equally welcomed.
Essential Requirements
- HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering (or equivalent military experience)
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Willingness to travel throughout the UK, with occasional international travel
- Eligible to obtain SC and DV Security Clearance
- Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota
