Quality Engineer

Location: Telford / Hybrid - 2 days per week onsite
Rate: £430 per day inside IR35
Contract: 6 months
Clearance: BPSS eligible

We are looking for an experienced Quality Engineer to join a major public sector modernisation programme.

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Scrum team, taking ownership of quality across the development lifecycle and helping to embed a Quality Engineering and shift-left approach.



Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement automated test solutions and frameworks, often from scratch.
  • Apply structured testing approaches aligned with TDD/BDD.
  • Develop and maintain automated testing throughout the CI/CD lifecycle.
  • Apply risk-based testing and effective test design techniques.
  • Ensure applications are built with automation and testability in mind.
  • Test across Unit, System, Functional and Integration levels.
  • Support NFR testing including performance, accessibility and security.
  • Work with databases and test data creation/management.
  • Analyse complex business requirements, processes and technical architectures to develop effective test solutions.
  • Coach and upskill developers and wider engineering teams on quality practices.
  • Work collaboratively with developers, including through pair programming.
  • Support manual testing where automation is not appropriate.
  • Ensure testing collateral is maintained to a high standard.
  • Engage with stakeholders and contribute to a strong quality-focused culture.


Essential Skills

  • Strong experience as a Quality Engineer, Automation Test Engineer or SDET.
  • Strong software testing and automation experience.
  • CI/CD experience.
  • Git / GitLab.
  • Java / Spring.
  • TDD / BDD understanding.
  • Strong test analysis, test design and risk-based testing skills.
  • Experience across multiple test levels.
  • Database and test data experience.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum teams.
  • Proven coaching and team engagement skills.
  • Ability to adapt and context switch across different priorities.
