An opportunity has arisen within the Business Intelligence section at this Fire and Rescue Service for a GIS Analyst (fixed term until April 2027), based at their Headquarters in Sheffield.

GIS Analyst

Hours/ Work Pattern: Full Time 37 Hours per week (Flexi Time)

Contract: Fixed Term Contract until April 2027

Base: Command Headquarters, Eyre Street, Central Sheffield

Salary: £32,061 – £34,434 (Grade 6)

Overall Purpose

You will play a key role in collecting and analysing geographic data to create maps and visualisations that support decision-making across the organisation. The role involves maintaining and updating geographic databases, ensuring data quality, and providing technical support and training to colleagues in the use of GIS technology. You will also liaise with external partners to ensure the effective use and sharing of GIS data.

About the Role

To be considered for this role, you will have technical experience and specialist knowledge in the use and function of GIS systems and databases. You should be comfortable using GIS software and have experience with data modelling tools and business intelligence reporting. The ability to analyse routing data, produce high-quality reports, and manage multiple projects is essential.

You must possess excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, a keen eye for data quality, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. Strong communication skills are required to provide technical support and training to colleagues and to liaise with external organisations. You should be able to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Ensuring compliance with data quality standards and organisational policies

Salary Expectations

New starters will commence on the bottom of the salary grade and will receive increases to the top of the grade on an incremental basis. This employer offers 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays. Annual leave increases after 5 years’ service to 32 days, followed by an extra day a year up to a maximum of 37 days. They also operate a generous flexi time attendance scheme.
