Network Security Consultant
Network Security Consultant
Base Salary: £45 – £60k
Benefits: 25 days holiday, private healthcare, twice-yearly bonus + funded professional qualifications
Location: Manchester or Lancaster – 3 days office / 2 days home
Travel: Occasional travel to customer sites across the UK
The opportunity:
If you’re a Network Engineer who has naturally moved more into the security side of things, or you’re already working within network security and want more exposure to design, consultancy and project work, this could be a really good next step.
We’re working with a growing specialist network and connectivity business that designs, builds and supports complex network environments for large organisations across the UK.
Due to continued growth, they’re looking to add another Network Security Consultant to the team.
This isn’t a role where you’ll spend all week sat in a ticket queue. There is a support element, but you’ll also get involved in designing solutions, delivering projects, implementing new technology and working directly with customers.
One of the big selling points here is the development. They’re happy to invest in people and will fund relevant professional qualifications and certifications, giving you the opportunity to keep developing technically and progress further into network security, consultancy and architecture.
Day to day
You’ll be working across a mixture of network and security projects, implementations and 3rd line escalations.
That could mean designing and deploying firewalls, working on VPN or SD-WAN solutions, troubleshooting a complex network issue, completing an upgrade or helping deliver a wider customer infrastructure project.
You’ll work across LAN/WAN environments alongside technologies covering enterprise firewalls, routing and switching, VPNs, web filtering, identity and access management and wider network security.
There is a customer-facing element too. You’ll be involved in gathering requirements, producing technical designs and implementation plans, carrying out network/security health checks and talking customers through the solutions you’re delivering.
The environments are business-critical, so there is an out-of-hours/on-call element to the position, which we can talk you through properly before you decide whether the opportunity is right for you.
Who we are looking for
You don’t necessarily need to already have “Network Security Consultant” on your CV.
You could be a Network Engineer, Network & Security Engineer, Network Security Engineer, Firewall Engineer or 3rd Line Network Engineer who has built up strong hands-on experience within networking and security.
The important thing is that you understand networking properly. We’re looking for solid TCP/IP and L2/L3 knowledge alongside hands-on experience with areas such as enterprise firewalls, LAN/WAN, routing and switching, VPNs, SD-WAN and network security.
Ideally, you’ll have experience implementing or upgrading network/security solutions rather than purely supporting an existing environment. Experience working within an MSP, ISP, network integrator or consultancy would translate particularly well because you’ll be working across multiple customer environments.
You’ll also need to be comfortable speaking with customers, troubleshooting independently and taking ownership of problems through to resolution.
You don’t need to have every certification under the sun already. If you’ve got the technical foundations and want to continue learning, there’s a genuine commitment here to funding relevant qualifications and developing people further.
The Next Steps
If this sounds like the sort of role you’ve been looking for, or you’re currently working in networking and wondering whether you’ve got enough security experience to make the move, get in touch.
Alongside the £40,000 – £60,000 salary, there’s a solid overall package with 25 days holiday, private healthcare, two bonus opportunities each year and funded professional qualifications.
You don’t need to tick every box. If you’ve got a strong networking background, good exposure to network security and want to develop further in this space, I’d be happy to have a conversation.
