Release Train Engineer (RTE) - SAFe Agile
Role: Release Train Engineer (RTE) – SAFe Agile
Location: Hybrid
Industry: Medical Devices / Regulated Engineering
Start date : Jan 2026
Role Overview
This is a true Release Train Engineer (RTE) role, not a Scrum Master position. We are seeking an experienced Agile delivery leader to orchestrate multiple Scrum teams operating within a SAFe Agile framework, delivering complex, compliance-driven products.
The role is best described as senior program-level delivery leadership, with strong ownership of execution, alignment, and predictability across teams working on regulated, hardware-adjacent systems. You will be responsible for ensuring that delivery commitments are met while navigating dependencies, regulatory constraints, and cross-functional stakeholder needs.
This position plays a critical role in scaling Agile practices across teams that may have previously operated independently, bringing structure, cadence, and clarity to end-to-end delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Release Train Engineer (RTE) for a SAFe Agile Release Train comprising multiple Scrum teams
- Coordinate and align teams delivering against a shared program roadmap or release plan
- Drive end-to-end delivery execution, ensuring commitments are met and outcomes are predictable
- Actively manage dependencies, risks, milestones, and timelines across multiple workstreams
- Facilitate and support PI Planning, execution tracking, and delivery readiness
- Ensure Agile delivery aligns with regulatory, quality, and compliance requirements
- Partner closely with engineering, product management, quality, regulatory, and compliance stakeholders
- Enable effective collaboration across teams transitioning from smaller, siloed, or less mature Agile setups
- Provide transparency and reporting at program and stakeholder levels
Required Experience
- Demonstrated experience as a Release Train Engineer (RTE) or in a senior Agile delivery / program management role
- Strong, hands-on experience applying SAFe Agile in real delivery environments
- Proven ability to coordinate multiple Scrum teams within a single program or release train
- Experience working in regulated industries, such as:
- Medical Devices (strongly preferred)
- Automotive
- Aerospace
- Robotics
- Defence or similarly compliance-heavy domains
- Experience supporting embedded systems or hardware-adjacent teams (e.g., robotics, embedded platforms, firmware)
- Comfortable operating in environments where documentation, traceability, and validation are critical to delivery
Nice to Have
- SAFe certifications (RTE, SPC, or equivalent)
- Experience scaling Agile delivery in growing or evolving engineering organizations
- Background in transforming or stabilizing delivery across complex, multi-team programs
