Platform Engineer - High Frequency Trading
Founding Platform Engineer, London
Early-stage, well-funded startup building high-performance, real-time systems at the intersection of machine learning and complex data environments.
You will be one of the first engineers, owning the design and build of the core platform from scratch.
What you’ll do
- Design and build scalable, low-latency infrastructure from first principles
- Develop systems for real-time data processing, streaming, and deployment
- Own platform architecture across research, development, and production
- Improve reliability, performance, and observability across the stack
- Work closely with a small, high-calibre team on core technical direction
Tech stack / languages
- Python (core language across platform and data workflows)
- C++ (performance-critical components)
- Go or Rust (infrastructure and systems engineering)
- Streaming: Apache Kafka
- Cloud: AWS / GCP
- Containers: Docker, Kubernetes
What they’re looking for
- Strong academic background in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field from a top-tier university
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience in distributed systems
- Hands-on experience building and running production systems
- Strong proficiency in at least one of: Python, C++, Go, or Rust
- Experience with real-time data systems and streaming architectures (Kafka or similar)
- Experience in high-performance or data-intensive environments (trading, ML, real-time systems)
- High ownership mindset, comfortable in an early-stage environment
Nice to have
- Low-latency systems or performance optimisation experience
- Exposure to ML infrastructure or large-scale data pipelines
- Background in startups or small, high-impact teams
