As part of our next phase of growth, we are expanding our internal software house to build the next generation of AI-driven contact centre platforms.

The Role:

We are seeking a Lead Python Engineer – AI Systems to take technical ownership of our core AI services and lead a multidisciplinary development team.

This is a hands-on senior leadership role, focused on Python engineering and applied AI, with responsibility for shaping intelligent systems used across contact centre environments. Deep telephony or VoIP engineering is not required, but understanding how AI operates within contact centre workflows is important.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary engineering team, with Python as the primary backend language
  • Architect, develop, and maintain Python-based AI services used in live production environments
  • Design and deliver AI-powered contact centre features, including automation, analytics, and conversational workflows
  • Build and integrate speech-to-text (STT) and text-to-speech (TTS) pipelines
  • Develop and deploy LLM-driven systems, including chatbots and agent-assist tools
  • Own end-to-end delivery of AI features: architecture, development, deployment, monitoring, and iteration
  • Drive technical excellence across APIs, microservices, and data pipelines
  • Oversee code quality, testing standards, release cycles, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Work closely with product, infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure reliability and scalability
  • Translate business and product strategy into clear technical roadmaps
  • Guide adoption of modern AI frameworks, tooling, and best engineering practices
About You
  • 7+ years' experience in software engineering, with Python as your primary language
  • At least 3 years' experience in a senior or lead engineering role
  • Strong hands-on background in applied AI and machine learning, including:
  • Large Language Models (LLMs) and prompt-based architectures
  • Speech-to-text and text-to-speech systems
  • NLP, chatbots, or conversational AI
  • Experience building AI systems for contact centre or customer operations environments
  • Strong understanding of deploying and operating ML systems in production
  • Solid grasp of system architecture, scalability, and microservices principles
  • Confident technical leader with the ability to guide engineers and influence stakeholders
  • Clear, pragmatic communicator with a delivery-focused mindset
Desirable (Not Essential)
  • Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar ML frameworks
  • Exposure to MLOps, model monitoring, or AI performance optimisation
  • Frontend collaboration experience (e.g. React-based systems)
  • Cloud-native or containerised deployment experience
