Job summary

Join our Safety and Quality Support team and play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the Trust's Datix risk and incident management system.

As a Datix System Administrator, you'll be the go-to expert for day-to-day system support--managing user access, responding to queries, and ensuring the system remains secure, reliable, and effective for staff across the organisation.

You'll work closely with the Datix Manager and stakeholders to deliver reporting, develop dashboards, support training, and drive system improvements that help teams identify risks and improve patient safety.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and experience with databases or healthcare systems, who enjoys problem-solving and working with a wide range of colleagues.

Main duties of the job

Provide day-to-day administration and support for the Datix system, ensuring it remains secure, reliable, and fit for purpose.

Act as the first point of contact for users, managing a helpdesk service and resolving queries in a timely and professional manner.

Manage user accounts, access permissions, and system configuration in line with organisational requirements.

Support the development of reports and dashboards to help teams monitor performance, identify risks, and improve patient safety.

Contribute to system improvements, updates, and change requests, ensuring effective communication with users.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience.
  • GSCE-level Computer sciences or equivalent
Desirable
  • Datix experience
  • An IT qualification at A-Level or above
  • A-Level maths at grade A-C or equivalent

Experience

Essential
  • Demonstrable in-depth experience of using, and managing databases
Desirable
  • Have delivered face to face and computer-based training for users of IT systems
  • Have worked in an acute hospital setting
  • Have experience of the EPIC EPR system
  • Previous NHS experience

Knowledge

Essential
  • A good understanding of patient safety and the purpose and use of safety reporting systems in healthcare
  • An understanding of organisational IT and database systems
  • An understanding of basic data analysis and presentation
Desirable
  • A good understanding of the NHS regulatory environment, risk governance, and the functions and activity of NRLS in particular

Skills

Essential
  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work autonomously, organise own time, prioritise, and work to deadlines
  • Able to communicate confidently, sympathetically and effectively with staff at all levels of the organisation, and form good working relationships
  • Numerate, literate, and logical, with experience using the Microsoft Office package, particularly Word and Excel
  • Able to work to exacting standards, maintain focus and apply rigorous attention to detail

  • Experience of teaching or training
