Junior Network Engineer

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Network Engineer to join the Infrastructure team within the Unified Communications Division at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Infrastructure team have a broad role in enabling communication across the hospitals. This includes telephony, mobile and unified communications services as well as infrastructure supporting IT services for these highly regarded hospitals.

The role of the Junior Network Engineer is to provide an on-site support service for Unified Communications systems in use throughout the Trust, supporting in the provision of a full range of telephony services to the Trust in all general areas of telephony and its associated systems which include traditional TDM and VoIP telephony, voicemail, call logging, IVR and Contact Centre solutions, paging and call recording.

The role also provides a point of escalation and technical support for the Service Desk Administrator, and will also be expected to provide cover for the Service Desk Administrator as necessary.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to undertake technical support for the Unified Communications Team. This includes all of the services and related systems provided by the team on site. This could include, but is not limited to; support of telephony, paging, radios, IT applications and desktop support.

The Junior Network Engineer will be expected to provide a front-line service desk service to users, which includes responding to phone calls, emails, or walk-ins, and creating tickets to track work to completion.

The post-holder will support the Network Engineers in providing routine maintenance of all equipment and applications as required including patch and version control, upgrades, troubleshooting of infrastructure faults on physical equipment or medium as/when required. This may require out of hours working to minimise impact to the trust.

The Junior Network Engineer will be required to support the Service Desk Administrator in ensuring that all workflow into the team is logged and categorised appropriately and allocated to the relevant work area within the team.

The post holder will be expected to provide cover for the Service Desk Administrator during periods of absence such as annual leave as necessary.

Essential
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience including: Maths GCSE pass at grade 4 or above, English GCSE pass at grade 4 or above

Experience

  • Relevant experience in supporting telephony, paging or IT systems in a large organisation
