We're recruiting a Business Intelligence Developer on a 12-month fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys turning data into accessible, visually compelling outputs aligned to clinical, operational and strategic priorities. You'll lead the development of high-quality dashboards and reusable data models that support data-informed decision-making across the Trust.
This is a hands-on Power BI development role focused on both designing effective data models and delivering impactful visualisations. You'll help shape how datasets are prepared and structured for reporting, working alongside engineers, analysts and service teams to produce outputs that are trusted, consistent and meaningful.
The role is primarily remote, but occasional in-person meetings and team activities are expected throughout the year. Applicants should be based within a reasonable distance of our Trust sites to enable occasional travel for in-person meetings or team activities, as required.

Main duties of the job
As a Business Intelligence Developer, you'll be responsible for creating and maintaining dashboards that help teams across the Trust make sense of their data. You'll gather reporting requirements, design effective data models, and build clear, reliable visual outputs in Power BI.
You'll work closely with colleagues and clinical teams to ensure reporting is based on accurate, trusted data. You'll also support the migration of legacy reports, helping to streamline and standardise outputs across the organisation.
The role requires strong Power BI skills, an eye for detail and the ability to manage your own workload from specification to release. Familiarity with SQL or similar languages is essential to support data validation and troubleshooting. You'll contribute to team discussions, promote good practice in reporting and play an active role in improving how insight is delivered across the Trust.

Job responsibilities
As a Business Intelligence Developer, you will:
Design, build and maintain Power BI data models and reporting outputs using curated, governed datasets.
Create clear, interactive dashboards that highlight trends, performance and variation.
Act as a subject-matter resource in Power BI, supporting colleagues with design and functionality queries.
Gather and interpret user requirements to ensure reports meet operational and strategic needs.
Identify emerging trends or performance issues using defined KPIs and metrics.
Work with data engineers and data scientists to align reporting with trusted data sources and models.
Support the migration of legacy reports into consistent, reusable formats.
Apply Agile and DevOps-aligned delivery practices using Azure DevOps and Jira.
Test, validate and document reports to ensure reliability and transparency.
Design reports with appropriate data access, performance and usability in mind, ensuring outputs are secure, scalable and aligned with organisational standards.
Contribute to team knowledge sharing, peer review and small-scale process improvements.
Communication
Proactively engage with team members and other stakeholders to gather data requirements and support the development of effective working relationships, verbally and in writing.
Attend various internal and external meetings on behalf of the team where appropriate.
Promote and communicate BI developments with other team members.
People Management
Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and KSF process.
Research & Development
Keeping up to date with Power BI releases and updates.
Ensure own personal and professional development through keeping up to date with latest technologies, systems and processes within the business intelligence field.
Clinical and Practice Governance
Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
Any data that is must be undertaken with regard to the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies.
The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes.
The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust.
The post holder must participate in clinical and safeguarding audits as required.
The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
- Degree in a numerate discipline or Proven workplace experience in a related role.
- Microsoft Certifications
- Power BI training
Experience
- Using Microsoft Power BI in a development role
- Leading the design and delivery of new reporting requirements
- Using DAX and Power Query
- Background in a related field
- Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics or Azure Data Factory
- Production of guidance documentation.
Knowledge and Skills
- Skilled in Power BI, including data modelling & DAX
- Knowledge of SQL or other languages
- Understands principles of secure and scalable reporting, including access control, performance and usability
- Clear communicator, confident in presenting data and insights to varied audiences
- Builds strong, collaborative relationships across technical and operational teams
- Agile delivery and DevOps tools
- Awareness of data governance, security, and access control in reporting
- Understanding of NHS datasets and information standards.
