Overview

A leading, fast-growing e-commerce organisation is seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to manage and automate hybrid cloud and on-prem infrastructure within a high-volume environment.

This role focuses on Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, observability, security, reliability, cost optimisation, and DevOps/SRE best practices, supporting a complex multi-cloud and on-prem estate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and manage hybrid cloud and on-prem infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible), ensuring secure, repeatable, production-aligned environments
  • Manage infrastructure across AWS and on-prem systems, including Windows Server (Domain Controllers, Hyper-V), Linux environments, networking, storage, and virtualisation
  • Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Cloud Build, Jenkins, GitLab CI), enabling rapid and reliable delivery
  • Implement blue-green deployments, canary releases, and rolling updates, including zero-downtime database deployments and schema migrations
  • Develop and maintain full-stack observability using tools such as Grafana, Loki, Datadog, Prometheus, New Relic, and CloudWatch
  • Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and automated incident workflows, including integration with Jira Service Management
  • Strengthen cloud security posture using GuardDuty, Security Hub, Macie, Inspector, IAM, and secrets management, ensuring PCI-DSS compliance
  • Embed DevSecOps practices, integrating tools such as Snyk into CI/CD pipelines
  • Drive reliability engineering through SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, incident response, and disaster recovery testing
  • Lead capacity planning and performance optimisation for peak trading events
  • Optimise cost and resource usage through right-sizing, tagging strategies, and forecasting
  • Leverage AI-driven tooling (AIOps) for anomaly detection, predictive alerting, and operational optimisation
  • Collaborate cross-functionally, maintain documentation, and promote DevOps best practices

Required Experience & Skills:

  • 5+ years’ experience in DevOps, SRE, or Infrastructure Engineering within hybrid cloud environments
  • Strong AWS expertise (EC2, RDS, ECS, S3, CloudFront, Route 53, Lambda, IAM, VPC, WAF)
  • Infrastructure as Code experience (CloudFormation required; Terraform/Pulumi desirable)
  • Containerisation and orchestration using Docker, ECS and/or Kubernetes
  • Strong Linux administration and networking fundamentals
  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline development and controlled deployment strategies
  • Python (essential) for automation, cloud integrations (Boto3), and DevSecOps tooling
  • Bash/Shell scripting (essential) for Linux automation and CI/CD environments
  • Experience with monitoring/logging tools (Grafana, Datadog, Prometheus, CloudWatch, New Relic, Loki)
  • Strong understanding of cloud security tooling and DevSecOps principles
