This is a senior-level position suited to an engineer who combines deep technical expertise with strong ownership and leadership capability. You will remain actively involved in development while also shaping architecture, influencing technical direction, and driving engineering best practices across the team.
You will work on business-critical systems, helping to scale and modernise existing platforms while contributing to the design and delivery of new features and services. Key Responsibilities
Technical leadership and delivery
- Take ownership of key systems, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and performant
- Remain actively hands-on, contributing to complex development work, code reviews, and technical problem-solving
- Lead on architectural decisions and contribute to long-term technical strategy
- Identify and address technical debt, performance issues, and scalability challenges
- Collaborate with product and stakeholders to shape solutions and define technical approaches
- Drive improvements in development processes, tooling, and standards
Mentorship and engineering excellence
- Act as a senior technical mentor within the team
- Support and guide other engineers through code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing
- Champion best practices in software engineering, testing, and deployment
- Help build a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement
Experience Required
- Extensive hands-on experience with PHP, JavaScript, React, and AWS
- Proven track record of designing and building scalable, production-grade systems
- Strong experience in system architecture and technical decision-making
- Experience working on high-traffic or business-critical applications
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership and lead technical initiatives
- Experience mentoring and developing other engineers
- Strong understanding of performance optimisation, security, and maintainability
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
