IT - Network and Infrastructure Engineer

The Infrastructure and Security team at Canterbury City Council are looking for a Network and Infrastructure Engineer to join them.

About this job
This role will play a key part in the ongoing maintenance of the existing network and infrastructure, and the modernisation of the council's technology and tools.
Duties may include
- Designing, implementing, operating and maintaining network and infrastructure services that support the council's digital and technology platforms
- Supporting and contributing to the ongoing modernisation of the infrastructure estate, including cloud-hosted platforms, identity-led access models and SaaS integration
- Building, configuring and maintaining infrastructure components across cloud, networking, identity, endpoint and core platform services
- Operating and supporting infrastructure services in line with agreed standards, security controls and architectural direction
- Participating in the delivery of infrastructure and platform change activity, including upgrades, migrations, improvements and decommissioning of legacy services
- Monitoring the health, performance, availability and resilience of infrastructure services, taking action to resolve issues and prevent recurrence
- Supporting disaster recovery, backup and resilience arrangements, including documentation, testing and continuous improvement
Working pattern
- Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays
- Full time, permanent contract (37 hours per week)
- Flexible hybrid working model; normally in the office at least once per week, varying with team workload and projects
- Occasional out-of-hours work for system maintenance or upgrades
The ideal candidate
Your knowledge
- Strong practical knowledge of modern infrastructure and networking technologies, including cloud platforms, virtualisation, networking and identity services
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft cloud technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365, in enterprise environments
- Strong understanding of cloud and software-defined networking concepts, connectivity, segmentation and access control
- Strong knowledge of identity, authentication and access controls as core components of infrastructure design
- Strong understanding of infrastructure security principles, including secure configuration, monitoring and resilience
Your experience
- Experience supporting infrastructure services through change, including upgrades, migrations and platform transitions
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure and networking issues
- Experience working within structured change, incident and problem management processes
- Ability to work collaboratively within a technical team and across service boundaries
Your qualifications
- Degree-level education in a relevant technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience in a network or infrastructure engineering environment
