Machine Learning Engineer

NATO-Backed Deep Tech Startup | Applied ML / Vision Engineer | Oxford | £120-180K + Equity

About the company:

We’re partnered with a high-growth, dual-use deep tech company based in Oxford that is redefining 3D perception for robotics and autonomous systems. Founded in 2024 and selected for the prestigious NATO DIANA technology incubator, they recently closed a significant seed round led by top-tier venture capital. Their core technology is a world-first, high-resolution passive 3D sensor that utilizes multi-stereoscopy (4-camera arrays) to outperform LiDAR in both range (up to 1km) and resolution. With a mission to become the default sensor for autonomous vehicles (UAV, UGV, USV) in both defense and civilian sectors, they are scaling rapidly toward a Series A.

About the role:

They are seeking an Applied ML / Vision Engineer to operationalize their AI roadmap. You will be responsible for moving research outputs into repeatable engineering artifacts, specifically focusing on quad-image training and edge deployment. This role sits at the intersection of deep learning research and practical deployment, requiring someone who can curate specialized datasets and optimize inference pipelines for real-time applications on autonomous platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute model benchmarking, training runs, and experiment pipelines.
  • Prepare and curate large-scale datasets specifically for quad-image (4-camera) training and evaluation.
  • Implement and optimize inference pipelines for both prototype systems and edge-compute hardware.
  • Conduct reproducible evaluations of model performance across speed, accuracy, and robustness metrics.
  • Help operationalize AI workflows to ensure research becomes production-ready software.

Requirements:

  • A PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or a relevant STEM field.
  • Exceptional academic background (First Class degree from Oxbridge or Imperial preferred).
  • Proven experience in training and deploying deep learning models for vision tasks.
  • Strong knowledge of inference optimization for edge devices.
  • Must be a citizen of a NATO member country (due to the nature of defense projects).
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-growth, collaborative startup environment.

Benefits:

  • £120-180K
  • Significant equity incentives.
  • Flexible working (Oxford-based with WFH options).
