Platform Engineer - Capital Market's - Sheffield (Hybrid)
Caspian One is partnering with a leading capital markets organisation on a large scale platform engineering programme and is looking to build out a number of experienced engineers to support delivery of an internal development platform.
This is a hand -on, coding first role ideal for engineers who enjoy designing and building distributed systems at scale, rather than purely working in DevOps or infrastructure-focused positions.
What you'll be doing
- Designing and building scalable Back End systems and APIs
- Writing production-grade code daily (Java, Node.js or Python)
- Contributing to a modern internal platform that supports a large engineering user base
- Solving complex technical problems through robust system design and architecture
- Working across hybrid environments (on-prem + cloud)
- Collaborating with SRE, platform and DevOps teams to improve reliability, performance and developer experience
What we're looking for
- Strong hands-on coding experience in Java, Node.js or Python
- Proven experience building APIs and distributed systems at scale
- Solid understanding of core Internet fundamentals (HTTP, DNS, TLS, networking)
- Experience delivering end-to-end solutions from design through to production
- A coding-first mindset this is not a tooling or ops-only role
Nice to have
- Exposure to platform engineering, SRE or DevOps environments
- Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud (AWS or GCP)
- Familiarity with observability tooling (eg Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
- Understanding of service mesh, API gateways or load balancing
