Platform Engineer
Contract | Glasgow | Hybrid Working
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Platform Engineer to join a leading investment bank on a contract basis, playing a key role in shaping the future of a new platform. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to develop innovative applications, navigate complex infrastructure and translate business requirements into actionable improvements, ensuring the platform remains at the forefront of technological innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver high-quality software using modern programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
- Ensure code is scalable, maintainable, secure, and optimised for performance.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements and shape technical solutions.
- Participate in code reviews and promote best practices, knowledge sharing, and a strong engineering culture.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and contribute to internal technical communities.
- Apply secure coding practices to protect data and reduce vulnerabilities.
- Implement effective unit testing to ensure reliability and clarity of code.
Core Skills
- Proficiency with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure; experience with container orchestration tools like Kubernetes
- Strong understanding of databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and NoSQL options such as MongoDB or Cassandra.
- Solid programming skills in languages such as Python, JavaScript, React, Java, C++ .
- Knowledge of DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Git, Docker containers, and continuous integration/delivery ( CI/CD ) pipelines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across teams.
- Experience in full-stack application development.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and practices.
Highly Valued Skills
- Experience building or contributing to an Internal Developer Platform in an enterprise environment.
- Proficiency in Python and TypeScript/JavaScript (React experience is a plus).
- Knowledge of Kubernetes and containerisation technologies.
- Experience working with AWS or another major public cloud provider.
- Experience working within an investment bank
