Tech Project Manager – Trading & Data Workflow

Overview
A leading global investment organisation is seeking an experienced Tech Project Manager with strong data analysis capability and deep front‐to‐back trade lifecycle expertise. This role is not a traditional administrative project manager position; it requires someone who can combine technical data skills with an understanding of trading workflows to structure and drive delivery across multiple systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for mapping workflows, sequencing delivery, identifying dependencies, and using data analysis to validate system behaviour and support execution decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery Management & Execution Support
- Structure and manage delivery activities across front, middle, and back-office systems.
- Build multi-phase delivery roadmaps and sequence complex, interdependent workstreams.
- Identify upstream and downstream impacts of system changes, ensuring cross-functional alignment.
- Proactively surface risks, dependencies, and constraints that may affect execution.
Trade Lifecycle Expertise
- Apply strong understanding of the trade lifecycle across order management, allocations, positions, fees, and clearing.
- Trace trades across multiple systems to identify breaks, validate behaviour, and assess downstream impacts.
- Provide subject-matter guidance to technology, operations, and trading teams.
Technical & Data Analysis
- Use SQL and Python (pandas) to analyse datasets, validate outputs, and support decision-making.
- Leverage Jupyter Notebook or similar tools for structured investigation of trade, position, and fee data.
- Produce analytical insights that inform sequencing, risk identification, and workflow improvements.
Workflow Mapping & Target-State Definition
- Map current-state processes and system interactions across the full trade lifecycle.
- Define target-state workflows and integration points, identifying gaps, bottlenecks, and required platform changes.
- Document workflow diagrams and system data flows used for delivery planning and stakeholder alignment.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
- Serve as a central point of coordination across engineering, operations, and trading teams.
- Translate complex systems and workflows into clear, concise updates accessible to senior stakeholders.
- Provide transparent reporting on progress, risks, milestones, and system health.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Competency
- Strong SQL, capable of writing complex analytical queries.
- Hands-on Python experience, particularly with pandas for data analysis.
- Proficiency with Jupyter Notebook or equivalent analytical tooling.
- Familiarity with multi-system data flows and large, structured datasets.
Functional Domain Knowledge
- Deep understanding of the end-to-end trade lifecycle.
- Experience across order management, trade capture, allocations, positions, fees, and clearing.
- Cross-asset knowledge across equities, fixed income, and derivatives is preferred.
Project & Delivery Experience
- Demonstrated experience structuring and sequencing multi-phase delivery initiatives.
- Ability to manage cross-functional dependencies and assess downstream impacts.
- Prior experience in high-paced technical delivery environments.
Soft Skills
- Highly organised, with a structured approach to complex problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including senior stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work autonomously and operate effectively in environments with shifting priorities.
Preferred Background
- Experience within a hedge fund, electronic trading environment, or top-tier investment bank.
- Exposure to middle- or back-office systems, reference data, reconciliations, or books and records.
- Prior experience collaborating directly with engineers, traders, and quantitative teams.
