Role Profile
An established industrial manufacturing business is looking for a BOM Item Master Controller to take ownership of Item Master data and Bill of Materials accuracy across its operation.
This newly created role will reduce the administrative burden on an established engineering team, helping the business maintain accurate data, improve planning and keep work moving efficiently through manufacturing.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will work across Engineering, Production, Procurement, Quality and Finance to ensure ERP and MRP data is accurate, controlled and fit for purpose.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and govern Item Master data integrity within the ERP system
- Create and maintain item records, including item types, units of measure, planning parameters, costing data, lead times, sourcing and lifecycle status
- Create, maintain and improve multilevel Bill of Materials structures for components, kits and assemblies
- Ensure Bill of Materials accuracy through new product introduction, production, engineering change and end of life stages
- Manage Bill of Materials versions, alternatives, effective dates, revision control, phantom assemblies, substitutes and configurable items
- Support engineering change activity by assessing planning and material impacts and implementing changes to agreed cut in dates
- Ensure consistency between item records, Bill of Materials, routings and procurement data
- Support and validate MRP runs, investigating and resolving exceptions caused by data issues
- Carry out data cleansing, audits and continuous improvement activity to strengthen master data quality
- Act as the link between Engineering, Production, Procurement, Quality and Finance
- Communicate changes clearly and help embed robust Item Master and Bill of Materials standards across the business
Skills and Experience
- The successful candidate will have proven experience of managing Item Master data and Bill of Materials within a manufacturing, planning or engineering environment. Experience of Business Central, or a comparable ERP system, is essential.
- You will be analytical, methodical and highly accurate, with the confidence to challenge data and processes constructively. You will also be comfortable working with large data sets and collaborating across operational teams.
- Strong understanding of Bill of Materials structures, version control and master data governance
- Solid knowledge of MRP logic, planning parameters and material planning
- Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and bulk data management
- Experience within discrete manufacturing, engineered products or complex assemblies
- High attention to detail with a structured approach and a proactive continuous improvement mindset
