Data Engineer

Our client, a leading Technology Consulting business based in Newcastle upon Tyne, seek a Data Engineer to join their elite Tyneside team as part of rapid expansion of the business to cope with client demand and continued excellent performance.

About the Role

As a Data Engineer, you will play a key role in the Data Analytics Team. This role involves building data pipelines to the company's central data platform as well as development, testing and maintenance of said platform to ensure the availability, reliability, and integrity of critical data.

Key Deliverables

  • Data Pipeline Development: Design and develop sophisticated data pipelines to import data from external vendors, sell-side partners, and other providers seamlessly into the central data platform.
  • Platform Development & Testing: Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of their platform to ensure it aligns with ever-changing business requirements. Test the system regularly to confirm its effectiveness and perform troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Platform Maintenance & Data Reliability: Ensure the platform is well-maintained, enabling uninterrupted access to crucial data points. Continuously verify data quality and integrity.
  • Continuous Improvement & Collaboration: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to streamline data accessibility and usability. Drive innovation by adopting advanced analytics technologies and methodologies.

About You

To be considered for the role, it is essential that you possess exemplary academic prowess, with a 2:1 or 1st in a relevant subject (e.g. Computing Science, Maths, Physics etc.) and accompanying demonstrable experience gained working as a Data Engineer. It is essential that you possess experience working as a Data Engineer, in hedge-fund, private equity or investment banking.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Hedge fund / Private equity experience is essential
  • Expertise in designing and building data pipelines
  • Proficient in SQL, Python, AWS and other data management technologies
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git and orchestration tools like Airflow
  • Ability to test and troubleshoot data platforms reliably.
  • A track record of improving data reliability and quality
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team-based environment
  • Self-starter, detail-oriented, and open to learning new technologies and methodologies
