Unity Technical Artist Developer
CayPlay Studios is looking for a talented and proactive Unity Technical Artist Developer to join our team and help scale Waterpark Simulator, a humorous tycoon-style first-person simulator currently in Steam Early Access. This role will play a key part in improving visual quality, performance, and production workflows as we continue development toward full release and future console ports.
If this sounds like a fit, please email your resume to techartist@cayplay.com
This position begins as a 3-month contract, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time role based on performance and team fit.
What you’ll do
• Optimize game visuals and performance across the project (textures, shaders, keywords, materials, draw calls, memory usage)
• Independently profile the game (Unity Profiler, Frame Debugger), find bottlenecks, and propose realistic solutions
• Set up and maintain prefabs, materials, and assets in Unity with performance in mind
• Work closely with artists to ensure assets meet technical and performance requirements, and offer clear alternatives when something doesn’t work
• Collaborate with programmers to improve rendering, asset workflows, and runtime performance
• Apply and balance techniques like texture atlasing, trim sheets, GPU instancing, SRP Batcher, and Addressables
• Support a live Early Access project on the path to full release and console ports
• Assist with console optimization and preparation (PlayStation and Xbox Series X/S)
Requirements
• Strong experience as a Unity Technical Artist on commercial projects
• Solid understanding of real-time rendering and performance optimization
• Confident work with Blender (required) and Unity asset pipelines
• Ability to write simple technical scripts or tools for Unity and/or Blender to improve workflows
• Experience optimizing draw calls, texture & memory budgets, shaders and material variants
• Hands-on experience with Unity Profiler and Frame Debugger
• Ability to balance visual quality, performance, and development time
• Proactive mindset: able to execute assigned tasks but also spot and raise issues independently
• Comfortable working with both artists and programmers
• Ability to explain technical limitations to artists clearly and propose practical alternatives
• Blender experience
• Located roughly in the European time zone
Bonus
• Experience with console development or porting (PlayStation / Xbox)
• Experience writing Blender Python scripts for asset preparation or optimization
• Background in simulator or tycoon-style games
• Experience supporting live or Early Access projects
• Familiarity with VFX optimization (Shader Graph, particles, VFX Graph)
We are building for long-term growth and are looking for someone who wants to take ownership, raise the bar technically, and contribute meaningfully to a live project with strong momentum.
