Next-Generation Connectivity R&D Position

An advanced European R&D organisation is looking for a Senior Researcher to join its digital innovation team focused on decentralised services, connectivity and AI. The role offers the opportunity to lead applied, delivery-focused research in next-generation connectivity and help translate technical concepts into practical, production-relevant solutions. This position sits at the intersection of research, engineering and digital innovation, with scope to influence future mobility and connected platform development. Over time, the role is also expected to expand into broader digital service and business concept activities.

Main Responsibilities
This role focuses on applied research, proof-of-concept development and technology transfer in software-defined connectivity.
- Lead applied research in software-defined connectivity, from validation through to lab and real-world testing
- Develop proof-of-concepts in areas such as Wi-Fi 7, 6G, network APIs and cloud-based connectivity services
- Translate research outcomes into production-relevant concepts and technical documentation
- Support technology maturation and transfer to product and engineering teams
- Manage a cloud-based proof-of-concept environment
- Monitor developments in connectivity technologies, standards and market trends
- Act as a technical point of contact for software-defined connectivity
- Collaborate with internal teams and external research partners
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to a range of stakeholders
- Support conferences, workshops and related external activities
Ideal Candidate
Required
- Degree in a relevant subject such as Computer Science, Networking, Mathematics, or equivalent
- Experience leading projects and working with research partners
- Experience with connectivity technologies or network platforms
- Strong communication skills
- Able to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience with cloud platforms, API integration and platform operations
- Valid UK driving licence
Desired
- Experience in applied research, product development or platform development in a commercial environment
- Automotive or mobile network platform experience
- Experience with cloud solution architecture and/or DevOps
- Postgraduate qualification such as a Master’s degree or PhD
- Understanding of Japanese companies or experience working with a Japanese headquarters
