Senior Business Analyst (Defence industry)

World Class Defence Organisation is currently looking to recruit a Senior Business Analyst subcontractor on an initial 2 year contract.

Please note: Previous experience working within the Defence or Aerospace industry is essential for this position.

Rate: £90.00 per hour
Overtime Rate: Hours worked over 37 hours per week will be calculated at ‘time and a quarter’
Location: Stevenage, Bolton or Bristol (depending on your preference)
Hybrid / Remote working: 2 days per week onsite and the rest working from home
Contract: 37 Hours per week
Duration: 2 Years (initially and then ongoing and long-term thereafter)
IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella)

Senior Business Analyst Job Description:

The Future Combat Air System (FCAS) is one of the largest, most exciting and challenging programmes within Defence – to design and deliver a Future Combat Air Programme for the RAF in record time. The key cornerstone of FCAS is the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), which sees the UK working with our international partners Italy and Japan, to deliver a future combat air platform. FCAS and GCAP presents a unique opportunity to influence the design of the system to consider the integration and employment of effects rather than just integrate effectors to an existing platform.
The FCAS portfolio consists of a number of different projects and contracts looking at different areas within Combat Air. The company is involved in a number of these projects including the TEMPEST project, where some novel technologies are being explored, the main UK FCAS Acquisition Programme, as well as the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP).
We are seeking a Senior experienced Business Analyst to support business analysis activities across the FCAS and GCAP programmes. You will translate operational needs from the outlined contract into clear requirements, support internal Delivery teams across multiple stakeholders, and ensure solutions align with mission, safety, security and regulatory expectations. You will work as part of the Programme Enablers team and closely with Engineering, Software, procurement, DEX, Programme and Project Leadership to shape and maintain requirements throughout the lifecycle of each FCAS and GCAP Programme.
This role would be the perfect fit for an experienced Senior Business Analyst or Change Manager, someone who is used to working at pace and often in ambiguous situations. We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running and quickly build relationships both internally and externally. Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Requirements and Stakeholder Alignment – Analyse, document and validate business needs across internal stakeholders and external stakeholders in programme working groups as and when required
    • Lead Stakeholder workshops and support in requirement reviews to resolve conflicts and secure sign off of key deliverable artefacts into the customer. Lead in requirements managements establish traceability and governance across a complex multi stakeholder environment
    • Produce Operating Models in conjunction with internal stakeholders identifying business and operational changes
    • Support to be provided to a FCAS AI Defence Strategy
    • Drive continuous improvement into the ways of working across all FCAS and GCAP personnel on the programme.
    • Experience in RACI and DACI delegation to Stakeholders through specification document creation.
    • Produce user stories, functional and non-functional requirements with acceptance criteria
    • Chair alignment sessions between operational priorities and system capabilities.
  • Business Process & Operational Analysis
    • Map current ‘As -is’ and future ‘To-be’ processes, identifying gaps, risks and improvement opportunities
    • Support in defining operational concepts and usage scenarios for Digital working environments
  • Solution Assessment and Delivery Support
    • Support solution design by reviewing system behaviours, interfaces and data flows for feasibility
    • Work with engineers and architect to ensure requirements are implementable and testable
    • Create and maintain traceability from FCAS Objectives – Capabilities – requirements – design/test artefacts
  • Compliance, Risk and Assurance
    • Support the PMO community in capturing risk and mitigations plans across the FCAS and GCAP programmes.
  • Documentation & Governance
    • Produce Business requirements documents
    • Decision Logs
    • Support Impact Assessment from various Secure Programme management documentation
  • Communication and Leadership
    • Communicate complex analysis outcomes clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Create effective working relationships across multi-disciplinary teams


Essential Skillset/experience:

5+ Years’ experience of Business Analysis, Change and Transformation
Experience of working within a Defence or Aerospace environment
Experience of shaping complex multi-national programmes and working alongside international colleagues.
Ability to understand strategy and define clear Activities and deliverable outputs from a clear but ambiguous customer strategy
Experience developing interoperability roadmaps between Stakeholders would advantageous.
Experience working in an agile environment using Agile methodology
Excellent stakeholder management and facilitation skills, including experience organising workshops and decision forums
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
Stakeholder empathy and ability to influence outcomes

Desired Skillset/experience:

Experience in using Sharpcloud would be desirable
Italian or Japanese speaking would be advantageous
Familiarity with defence standards i.e. DEFSTANS, DEFCONS
Knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering Tools
DOORS experience for requirements management
