Channel Health Alliance has an opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Head of Operations to join our senior leadership team at an exciting time of development and transformation across the NHS.

Channel Health Alliance (CHA) is a GP Federation established in 2017 to deliver high-quality, innovative healthcare services across South-East Kent. Working in partnership with local GP practices, NHS organisations, and community providers, we are committed to improving access to care and supporting the health and wellbeing of our diverse population.

As a Care Quality Commission (CQC) accredited organisation rated "Good", we pride ourselves on delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred services. Our teams work collaboratively to provide a range of NHS services, embracing innovation and new ways of working to meet the evolving needs of our communities.

This is a pivotal operational leadership role, supporting Channel Health Alliance to deliver the ambitions in line with the NHS 10-year Health Plan and the future direction of neighbourhood care in primary and community services.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the clinical and executive leaders, GP practices, primary care teams, and wider NHS and social care partners, the head of operations will ensure that our operational model is capable of responding to the changing needs of the population.

About us

Channel Health Alliance was established in April of 2017 providing a range of primary and community services on behalf of the NHS. We are delighted to have attained accreditation with the Care Quality Commission, and a CQC rating of good which only a few federations have achieved.

Channel Health Alliance has embraced the continuing challenges faced by health and social care which has enabled us to provide high quality, innovative services for our diverse population.

Total Health Excellence (THE) East and West Primary Care Networks (PCNs) work with our partners to provide proactive, personalised care for people close to home. We operate across the Dover and Folkestone areas and eight GP practices form our PCNs. Our PCNs are led by a Clinical Director, who is a GP, supported by a team of around 50 highly qualified health professionals.

Job responsibilities

This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving operational excellence across Channel Health Alliance.

The post holder will be managerially accountable to the Company Chairmen being responsible for providing operational and strategic leadership to ensure that the services provide high-quality patient care and achieves performance objectives and CQC Compliance.

This role is pivotal in ensuring Channel Health Alliances business governance, HR processes, IT infrastructure and service delivery models are robust, scalable, and aligned with best practices.

You will be the key driver in ensuring operational and business functions run safely and seamlessly, optimizing efficiency while maintaining high patient care standards, staff engagement and satisfaction.

Working as part of the companys senior team the Head of Operations will:

Act as a trusted advisor to the Directors and Board ensuring effective decision making across all services.

Provide visionary leadership to the service leads and wider business support teams empowering teams to deliver operational excellence.

Be accountable for the performance of the services, including accountability for the delivery of high-quality patient care, clinical governance, patient safety, health and safety, clinical quality, human resource management and the delivery of performance and financial targets.

Support the Directors and Board in driving business planning, governance and financial sustainability, ensuring CHA remains resilient in the evolving NHS landscape.

Identify and implement any business growth opportunities including optimizing NHS and non-NHS revenue streams.

Have joint responsibility with the other members of the senior team for driving forward the Companys strategic objectives and service direction.

Work closely with the Company Directors to shape and implement the corporate objectives of the Company.

Support the senior team to align the services closely with Companys overall strategic priorities including the delivery of high-quality clinical care.

Ensure that the necessary corporate governance arrangements are in place across the services in line with requirements.

Ensure regulatory compliance including CQC standards, patient safety protocols and GDPR requirements.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • First degree or equivalent
  • Post graduate study to masters level
  • Registered clinical professional relevant to role
  • Evidence of CPD
Desirable
  • Strategic Leadership or management qualification

Experience

Essential
  • Extensive knowledge of the NHS environment
  • Proven senior leadership experience in business management and healthcare operations
  • Excellent influencing skills.
  • Experience managing complex teams, leading change and embedding best practice.
  • Strong background in business governance, HR processes, transformation and service redesign.
  • Demonstrable success in delivering changes.
  • Track record of financial management skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent inter-personal and communications skills, with a track record in writing complex business cases and policies;
  • Experience of managing and deciding on employment issues
Desirable
  • Experience working with ICBs, GPs, Federations or other healthcare providers
  • Experience in preparing bids, contracts and tendering process
  • Experience in high level Quality improvement initiatives
