Own the Power BI Reporting Platform Behind a Multi Billion Pound Programme
High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd is looking for a Reporting & Data Analytics Manager with strong hands on Power BI capability to join its Programme Management Office in Birmingham.
This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of a live, programme wide Power BI reporting product already relied upon across HS2.
You will not be starting with a blank screen or building another dashboard that sits within one team.
The Power BI solution you will own provides a single programme wide view of information, bringing together Project Controls, delivery and wider corporate data including governance and finance.
It is then cascaded back through the programme to contract level, where teams use the reporting platform as part of their own reporting activity.
Your role will be to keep that product accurate, relevant and evolving as the programme changes, ensuring the information being used at contract level remains aligned with the information required at corporate and senior leadership level.
For someone who enjoys working with data but also wants to see their work used across a nationally significant programme, this offers a level of visibility and ownership that is difficult to find in a conventional data analytics role.
The Opportunity
Working directly for HS2 Ltd within the Programme Reporting Team, you will take ownership of the existing programme wide Power BI reporting solution.
You will work across a complex range of information sources, bringing together Project Controls, programme and delivery information alongside corporate data such as finance and governance.
The solution is already established. The challenge is keeping it current, accurate and fit for purpose as the programme evolves.
You will interrogate data, maintain and evolve dashboards, identify anomalies and work with stakeholders to understand what the information is actually telling them.
You will also help shape how the reporting product develops, translating changing business requirements into practical reporting solutions that are clear and usable for people who are not data specialists.
This is a technically focused role, but it is not a pure developer position.
You need genuine hands on Power BI capability, combined with the analytical judgement and stakeholder skills to understand what senior users need from the information and make sure the reporting delivers it.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the existing programme wide Power BI reporting product, ensuring it remains accurate, current and fit for purpose.
- Maintain, update and evolve Power BI reports and dashboards directly, responding to changing programme and corporate requirements.
- Bring together Project Controls, delivery, finance, governance and other corporate data into clear and reliable reporting.
- Interrogate complex datasets, identify anomalies and investigate data quality issues before information is used for decision making.
- Work with stakeholders across the programme to understand reporting requirements and translate them into effective Power BI solutions.
- Support data assurance, governance and consistency across the reporting process.
- Develop reporting and insight that can be understood and used effectively by both data specialists and non technical stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve the reporting product, processes and user experience as the HS2 programme continues to evolve.
About You
We are looking for a hands on Power BI and data analytics professional who enjoys taking ownership of a live reporting product and making it better, ideally with PMO reporting experience
Your background does not necessarily need to be infrastructure.
You could have developed your experience within defence, pharmaceutical, financial services, manufacturing, technology or another large corporate or highly governed environment.
What matters is that you have worked with complex organisational data and understand the importance of accuracy, governance and producing reporting that senior people can rely upon.
You will have:
- Strong, hands on Power BI experience, with the ability to maintain, update and evolve reports and dashboards yourself.
- Strong data literacy and analytical capability, including the ability to interrogate large datasets and identify anomalies.
- Experience maintaining or managing organisation wide, programme wide or enterprise reporting solutions.
- Experience working within a large corporate organisation where reporting, governance and data quality are important.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to understand different reporting requirements and translate them into practical solutions.
- Confidence communicating complex data and information clearly to senior and corporate stakeholders.
- Experience supporting data assurance and governance alongside reporting and analytics.
- The ability to manage competing requirements and deliver reliable reporting to demanding deadlines.
Desirable Experience
The following would be particularly beneficial:
- PMO experience or experience working with Project Controls data.
- Experience turning programme, project or operational data into meaningful reporting and insight.
- Advanced Power BI capability.
- Microsoft Fabric experience.
- Experience working within major infrastructure, rail, defence, pharmaceutical or similarly regulated environments.
- Civil Service or wider public sector experience.
- Experience developing strategic, executive or Board level reporting.
- Previous team leadership or line management experience.
Why Join High Speed Two?
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a reporting product that is already embedded within one of the UK's largest and most complex infrastructure programmes.
Your work will not sit within a single project or department.
The reporting platform is used across the programme, providing visibility from contract level reporting through to corporate and senior leadership decision making.
You will gain exposure to a huge variety of information, stakeholders and delivery environments while developing an understanding of how data is used to manage a multi billion pound, nationally significant programme.
And because the HS2 programme is continuing through to 2039, there is significant scope for development, broader responsibility and long term career progression.
The Package
£60,000 to £65,515 salary
12% employer pension contribution
Private healthcare
25 days annual leave
Birmingham based hybrid working
Direct employment with High Speed Two Ltd
Significant opportunities for development and career progression
If you are a Power BI professional who wants to move beyond producing reports for a single department and take ownership of a live, programme wide reporting solution used across a nationally significant programme, this could be an excellent next step.
