Associate Data Engineer

Job summary

We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Band 6 Associate Data Engineer to join us and make substantial contributions to this work. The role will involve using your experience, skills and initiative to implement complex solutions, build datasets, analytical and reporting dashboards to provide insights that will enable clinical and operational services to monitor their operations, enhance processes and improve their performance.

As a cross functional team, you may be required to pick up tasks in any area or division at any time.

Main duties of the job

  • Work with the senior data engineers on their proposed solutions to identified business objectives into actionable data projects; specifically with business users to identify critical questions, pain points, and challenges they face.
  • Support development of solutions that deliver measurable business value, going beyond a mere checklist of technical requirements.
  • Utilise new trust data platforms and other relevant tools to gather, analyse, and process large-scale datasets.
  • Support and contribute towards the design phase of applications and ontology based on business requirements
  • Develop and work alongside fellow Data Engineers and Data Warehouse teams to deploy scalable data pipelines, ensuring data integrity, quality, and reliability.
  • Communicate findings and insights effectively to data engineers, enabling them to make informed business decisions.
  • Respond to identified opportunities for turning exploratory or analytical applications into interactive operational workflows to drive business value with the guidance of the senior data engineers

Management Responsibilities Support the delivery of service transformation projects within the sector which need toprovide in-depth triangulated intelligence to inform decision making, businessplanning, and the measurement of improvement in performance and quality. Support the fostering of a culture of customer service by working closely with thedecision-support function, responding effectively to the needs of the organisation andpro-actively seeking to add value to the organisation through information analyses,tools and methods. Support the fostering of close working relations with the Data, Digital, Performance, ICTand Finance departments in developing and maintaining quality information andinformation reporting systems. Contribute to the development of Information Management and Data Quality policiesand procedures to meet the needs of the Trust. Support, mentor and line manage junior staff where possible

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to degree level in computer or information science, Engineering and or other technical disciplines or equivalent experience
  • Educated to degree level in computer or information science, Engineering and or other technical disciplines or equivalent experience Evidence of post-qualifying continued professional development
Desirable
  • Evidence of post-qualifying continued professional development
  • Educated to masters level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area

Experience

Essential
  • Ability to identify and understand business problems, translating them into effective solutions rather than focusing solely on delivering against a list of technical requirements
  • Ability to structure, organize and drive projects in a constantly evolving environment
  • Databases - general familiarity with common relational database models and proprietary instantiations
  • Iterative working - familiarity with agile and iterative working methodology and rapid user feedback gathering concepts
Desirable
  • Data quality - best practices
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques to effectively present findings.
  • Experience of working with NHS information systems and datasets
