Head of Applications

Head of Applications £130K UK - Fully remote

Excited by the challenge of leading global engineering teams at a fast-growing cybersecurity technology company? We're looking for a Head of Applications to lead a globally distributed Application Technology team responsible for building and scaling the customer-facing systems that power a real-time offensive security platform used by enterprise organisations around the world. For this role, you must be resident in the UK and eligible to work without visa sponsorship.

What You'll Do

• Lead and grow a global Application Technology team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and high performance across multiple regions.
• Own the development and evolution of core SaaS application capabilities including account lifecycle management, authentication, access control, notifications, logging, and multi-tenancy for enterprise B2B customers.
• Provide direct line management for regional leads and engineering teams, ensuring consistent technical standards, delivery practices, and alignment with global engineering strategy.
• Partner closely with Product and Design teams to deliver intuitive, scalable workflows and user experiences across customer-facing applications.
• Solve complex engineering challenges involving data pipelines, secure access control, system observability, and large-scale SaaS infrastructure.
• Shape engineering practices across teams, embedding quality, security, agility, and DevOps principles into the development lifecycle.
• Drive collaboration across global teams, ensuring knowledge sharing, consistent architecture decisions, and unified execution of technical strategy.
• Build and scale a high-performance engineering culture through hiring, coaching, structured performance reviews, and career development pathways.

What We're Looking For

• Backend: Node.js, TypeScript
• Frontend: React.js, TypeScript
• Database: MySQL
• Infrastructure & Tools: AWS, ECS, Kubernetes, Airflow, Kafka, Serverless
• 10+ years' experience building and managing distributed engineering teams across multiple regions
• Proven experience leading global engineering organisations, managing regional leads rather than solely individual contributors
• Strong background developing and scaling high-performing engineering teams, including hiring, mentoring, performance frameworks, and career progression
• Experience working with cybersecurity platforms or large-scale security data, ideally within threat intelligence or offensive security environments
• Track record building engineering organisations within early-stage or high-growth B2B SaaS startups serving enterprise clients
• Deep technical understanding across modern full-stack architecture, including backend services, frontend applications, and cloud infrastructure
• Strong understanding of SaaS platform fundamentals, including onboarding, authentication, SSO, granular authorisation, and account lifecycle management
• Experience designing systems supporting notifications, logging, multi-tenancy, and asset categorisation
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures, asynchronous workflows, and orchestration tools
• Exposure to platform engineering or developer tooling that improves delivery speed, reliability, and developer productivity
• Experience driving Agile and DevOps practices within high-growth technology organisations
• Committed to engineering best practices including clean, testable code and robust automated testing strategies.
