Infrastructure Manager

Role: Infrastructure Manager Salary/Rate: £400-500 per day outside IR35 Location: Mainly remoteContract Duration: approx. 5 months

We are currently looking for a CNI Infrastructure Manager for our IT Services client. This CNI Infrastructure Manager role is mainly remote, with occasional UK office visits as required by the business. The contract for the CNI Infrastructure Manager position is for approx 5 months, with potential to extend, operating outside IR35.

Essential skills/experience required:

• Strong technical background in
  • IT infrastructure
  • networking
  • security
  • and systems administration within large-scale, mission-critical environments
• Proficiency in automation and scripting tools (PowerShell, Python, Ansible) to streamline operations.
• Knowledge of security principles, firewall management, vulnerability management, and compliance requirements.
• Proven experience implementing and managing IAM frameworks, including RBAC, access reviews, and identity lifecycle processes
• Skilled in developing and maintaining service catalogues with clear documentation and dependency mapping.
• Expertise in patch management processes and tools, including scheduling, compliance monitoring, and vulnerability remediation.
• Experience designing, testing, and maintaining disaster recovery and backup solutions for critical systems.
• Strong analytical skills for root cause analysis and implementing effective technical solutions.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
• Relevant technical certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CCNP Security, ITIL Foundation, CompTIA Security+)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in infrastructure management or security-focused roles within CNI or similarly regulated environments

Role/responsibilities:

This role ensures the security, availability, and resilience of essential national systems. It combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership.

• Lead investigations into faults, outages, and incidents, producing root cause reports and implementing corrective and preventive measures
• Maintain all SPOP & SSN infrastructure components to the highest standards, applying security patches and compliance updates in line with technical best practices
• Plan, implement, and monitor rigorous patch management processes across all assets to minimise vulnerabilities and ensure compliance
• Keep an accurate and up-to-date asset inventory aligned with vulnerability management requirements
• Manage and document all firewall rule changes to ensure full compliance with security policies
• Deploy and manage monitoring solutions for early detection of issues and comprehensive metric collection
• Define and enforce access policies for all Critical National Infrastructure systems
• Maintain detailed access logs and support regular audits to ensure compliance
• Develop and maintain a service catalogue for all CNI services
• Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks to CNI infrastructure, managing issues and communicating clearly with stakeholders
• Define and maintain a RACI matrix for all CNI infrastructure services and processes, ensuring clear ownership and accountability across stakeholders
• Monitor adherence to SLAs, KPIs, and compliance benchmarks, driving accountability through regular performance reviews and service health assessments
• Develop, implement, and sustain disaster recovery and back-up plans for all critical systems
• Develop and maintain dashboards for real-time visibility into infrastructure health, compliance status, and performance
