About the Role

Our client, an established consultancy, is seeking an experienced Principal Security Architect to join their growing security practice and design and drive out security strategy for their clients. The organisation supports clients in achieving their strategic objectives through the delivery of innovative and secure technology solutions.

This role focuses on cloud security architecture and security assurance, supporting clients in designing and maintaining secure cloud environments and delivering security programmes. It is a client-facing position, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders across both technical and non-technical teams.

This role has the option of being a permanent employee, or being engaged for a 12-month fixed term contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and assess existing security architecture practices across SecOps and GRC functions.
  • Identify capability gaps within governance processes and technical security assurance.
  • Develop and implement a formal Security Architecture operating model to support consistent security decision-making.
  • Establish and define cross-platform security standards and guardrails across cloud platforms including AWS and Azure.
  • Integrate security architecture into TDA, Enterprise Architecture, project delivery lifecycles, and BAU processes.
  • Strengthen the quality, consistency, and effectiveness of security input within architectural and technical design decisions.
  • Replace fragmented or informal approval processes with structured and scalable security governance mechanisms.

Requirements

Essential

  • Active SC clearance
  • Demonstrable experience as a Security Architect, ideally within cloud environments. You must have experience leading on design and delivery of security strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of major cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Microsoft 365.
  • Familiarity with recognised security frameworks and standards (e.g. ISO 27001, NIST, CIS).
  • Experience with security technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable

  • Professional security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, or relevant vendor certifications (e.g. Microsoft, AWS, Palo Alto, Cisco).
  • Experience with DevSecOps practices and tooling.
  • Knowledge of container security and microservices architectures.
  • Understanding of Zero Trust security principles.
  • Experience producing high-level and low-level designs and delivering assurance across complex programmes.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders in client environments.
