About the Role
We are looking for a Level 2 (L2) Application Support Engineer to join a global trading operations team. The role focuses on supporting electronic trading platforms and financial applications in a high-pressure production environment. You will also participate in IT Service Management processes, including Incident, Problem, and Change Management, and contribute to operational governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and resolve live production issues quickly, escalating when necessary.
- Prioritise incidents based on business impact and urgency.
- Monitor system components and improve monitoring workflows.
- Support and maintain both production and testing environments.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and end users.
- Document systems, processes, and operational enhancements.
- Collaborate with development teams to ensure smooth release handovers.
- Provide clear updates on outages and incidents.
- Support compliance and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Identify operational risks and implement mitigation.
- Mentor and train team members as needed.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong interest in learning new technologies and tools.
- Experience with financial trading systems, messaging protocols, or electronic transaction platforms.
- Understanding of FIX protocol and low-latency system operations.
- Familiarity with messaging systems (e.g., JMS) and production system workflows.
- Knowledge of straight-through processing (STP) trade flows is desirable.
- Networking expertise with ability to analyse packet captures.
- Advanced Unix/Linux skills (TCP tuning, CPU affinity).
- Scripting experience in one or more languages (Python, Bash, etc.).
- Experience with system connectivity to trading platforms or exchanges is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and strong customer-service mindset.
