Bookkeeper

My client is a friendly and established accountancy practice based in Tiverton, supporting a diverse portfolio of clients across a range of industries and business sizes.

They are looking to appoint an Accounts Technician / Bookkeeper to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with existing bookkeeping or accountancy practice experience who is looking for a full-time, office-based position and wants to continue developing their skills within a supportive team.

The Role

Working with a varied client portfolio including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, you will provide support across a range of bookkeeping and general accountancy duties.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing and maintaining bookkeeping records for a variety of clients

• Assisting with the preparation of accounts and tax returns

• Preparing VAT returns and supporting monthly and quarterly accounting procedures

• Working with cloud accounting software, particularly Xero and/or QuickBooks

• Assisting clients with accounting software queries and providing general support

• Processing and maintaining accurate financial and client records

• Supporting colleagues with accounts and tax deadlines

• Liaising with clients to obtain information and resolve queries

• Ensuring work is completed accurately and within required deadlines

• Maintaining confidentiality and complying with GDPR requirements

• Following appropriate anti-money laundering procedures

• Providing general administrative support to the practice when required

About You

The ideal candidate will have some previous experience in bookkeeping or an accountancy practice and be comfortable working with a range of clients.

You will ideally have:

• Previous bookkeeping or accountancy practice experience

• Good knowledge of Xero and/or QuickBooks

• Strong numerical and analytical skills

• Good written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

• Strong organisational and time-management skills

• The ability to work independently and as part of a team

• A professional and friendly approach to dealing with clients

• Good IT skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly

• The ability to manage competing deadlines and changing workloads
