Senior PowerBI Developer

Our client are looking to recruit a pivotal role within the Analytics & Insight team, nestled within the Digital and Information function. Their team is dedicated to leveraging data-driven insights to empower strategic decision-making across the organisation. They are committed to utilising cutting-edge technology, particularly Microsoft Power BI and Azure, to drive innovation and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
This is a predominantly remote role that would need a trip to the Birmingham office once every fortnight.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior PowerBI Developer:

  • Leadership in BI Development: Spearhead the creation of sophisticated dashboards and reports in Power BI, ensuring alignment with evolving business needs. Champion data integrity initiatives to guarantee the delivery of accurate and actionable insights.
  • Advanced Data Solutions Design: Architect robust data models and database strategies using Microsoft Azure, enabling seamless data integration and fostering comprehensive BI environments conducive to informed decision-making.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Support: Act as a senior BI partner to business stakeholders, forging strong relationships and ensuring BI initiatives are closely aligned with organisational objectives. Solicit feedback from stakeholders to refine BI tools and enhance decision-making capabilities.
  • Strategic Analytics Implementation: Utilise advanced analytics techniques to extract strategic insights that drive business outcomes. Lead predictive and prescriptive analytics efforts within Power BI to forecast trends and model business scenarios effectively.
  • Collaboration & Development: Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous learning within the BI team and across the organization. Own BI initiatives, ensuring they deliver valuable insights and are embraced by end-users.


Requirements of the Senior PowerBI Developer:

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of significant experience in BI development, with a strong focus on Microsoft Power BI.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage, influence, and provide critical insights to senior management and key stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Experience collaborating with development teams, DevOps engineers, and stakeholders to streamline Power BI development processes using Azure DevOps.
  • Expertise in Power BI: Proficiency in creating complex Power BI reports, dashboards, power query, DAX, data models, and data integration from various sources.
  • Data Modelling: Strong understanding of data modelling concepts, including relationships, DAX calculations, and optimization techniques.
  • Power BI Dataflows: Proficiency in creating and managing Power BI Dataflows to ingest, transform, and prepare data for analysis and reporting.
  • Data Visualisation: Ability to design visually appealing reports and dashboards, utilizing effective data visualizations to convey insights to stakeholders.
  • SQL Proficiency: Solid understanding of SQL for data manipulation, querying, and performance tuning.
  • Version Control: Familiarity with version control systems like Git for managing Power BI projects and collaboration.
  • Azure DevOps: Knowledge of using Azure DevOps Boards to manage workload.
  • Governance & Security: Understanding of implementing security best practices for Power BI, including role-based access control (RBAC).
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to Power BI reports, data connections, and performance.
