Project Assurance Officer

We are recruiting for a Project Assurance Officer for a leading Government organisation based in Milton Keynes, this is a hybrid role with 3 days a week on site, 2 days WFH. Ideally you will have current SC Clearance, if not you must be eligible to obtain it.

We are looking for a results-driven Project Assurance Officer with experience supporting PMO functions in complex, regulated project environments. Strong understanding of project and programme governance, assurance frameworks, financial controls, and delivery oversight. Proven ability to produce accurate reporting, maintain control documentation, and support compliance with organisational standards.

Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and the wider Office Suite for data analysis and reporting. A proactive, detail-oriented contractor who quickly adds value, works independently with minimal supervision, and collaborates effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Delivered project assurance support across multiple programmes, ensuring compliance with governance frameworks and internal controls
  • Maintained and quality-checked RAID logs, action trackers, and assurance documentation
  • Supported financial oversight including monitoring spend, forecasts, and variances
  • Produced accurate and timely reports and dashboards to inform senior stakeholders
  • Ensured project artefacts met audit and assurance standards
  • Collaborated with delivery teams to embed project control measures and best practice
  • Supported assurance reviews, gateway processes, and internal audits
  • Worked autonomously in a fast-paced environment, meeting tight deadlines and priorities

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience in a PMO or project support environment, ideally within technology, infrastructure, engineering, or public sector programmes
  • Working knowledge of project and programme governance processes, including assurance and control frameworks
  • Experience supporting project financial management, including budget tracking, forecasting, and variance reporting
  • Understanding of project controls, including risk, issue, dependency, and change management (RAID)
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced capability in Excel for reporting and analysis
  • Ability to produce accurate, high-quality reports and maintain assurance documentation
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while supporting multiple stakeholders
  • A self-motivated and proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

Desirable:

  • Professional membership of relevant bodies (e.g., RICS, CICES, APM, ICE).
  • Experience in regulated, high complexity sectors (rail, nuclear, highways, utilities, aviation, defence)
  • Legal or commercial qualifications.

This is an umbrella contract, the role is Inside IR35
